Conan Goes To TBS!

Matt Drudge has breaking news banner up on his website. Conan O'Brien has reached a deal to
bring his talk show to TBS. Does this mean Adios! to George Lopez?

Based on some of the bitter comments he made when ABC cancelled his sitcom, I fear that is
not going to go well. :-\

Does anyone watch TBS? I know I sure do not. ???

I watch them on Monday and Tuesday evenings for reruns of "Family Guy" and "the Office" and the occassional rerun of "Friends" or "Seinfeld". I have never watched a single episode of any of their original comedies, though, but I have seen a few episodes of "Lopez Tonight".

Regardless, I think this is a good move for TBS, as it fits in with their other programming, original and off-network.

Doesn't mean the rest of the world shares those viewing habits. :D

Now watch Nick at Nite air reruns of Conan's old show ("The Simpsons") and get bigger ratings than TBS - just like they did with a "George Lopez" rerun. ;D

I can see all the promos for Conan during TBS' MLB playoff coverage now...

I guess this is Turner's way of trying to build their own late-night wall: TBS for 25-54, and Cartoon Network (adult swim) for the same demo and younger...

Do we really need to start a new thread for each time someone has a thought about the Conan/TBS saga? We're up to three threads already and they're all about the same thing.

Just a pet peeve.... ::)

But it begs th question...What if George won't agree to move his show?

He made some very bitter comments after ABC cancelled his sitcom, implying an anti-Hispanic bias.
Will he accept this move gracefully and appreciate the lead-in audience that Conan might be able to
generate, or go off again about how the poor Mexican guy is being shoved aside by the fair-skinned
freckled one? Will be interesting to see.

Good point. I'm going to open a new thread to discuss this. ;D

Um, which part of "he's the one who helped get the ball rolling" didn't make sense? ;)

Before speculating about things, sometimes it's good to get the facts.

I wish Conan luck, but I won't be watching. The reason is I despise TBS. TBS is one of the two channels, with TNT being the other one, that first tested and passed the pop-up ad/promo system on to other channels. The other channels usage of the system still continues to annoy viewers to this day. Conan's audience is going have to learn to put up with the pop-up annoyance now since this wasn't a problem on his old NBC shows.

I was really hoping he would be on FOX. Oh well. :(

So you're blaming TBS for something they started that everybody else now does? I guess that's a principled stand. I don't think I've watched anything on TBS for years except for Seinfeld reruns. But I like Conan and I'll watch. He'd better do a sharper show than he did on NBC though, or it won't last.

The real irony here is that he's pushing Lopez to midnight. Ha!

TBS is among the most carried cable channels available, along with USA and CNN. It puts Conan in the whole Time-Warner empire of cable, which is potentially good. I see HBO specials and Warner movies in his future. He doesn't have to deal with pesky affiliates, who made the Fox Network thing such a crap shoot. The budget is probably smaller, but who cares when you're already a multi-millionaire? The CoCo fans have a place to get their fix, and those on the other side have lots of alternatives. He can do what he wants and not have to deal with broadcast standards. The only loser is Lopez! And this isn't a marriage. He does it for a while, and if it's a hit, he might get a shot someplace else. No one lives forever, and Conan is younger than all the current hosts except Kimmel.

No, it doesn't. However, I've never seen Conan. The last time I watch an entire Tonight Show, Jack Paar was host.
