Conan

I liked the new Intro Theme music. Max Weinberg must've written the original Conan theme.

Is that like Jay Leno, since Kevin Eubanks left, they got a new theme with the new band?

I've watched almost two shows, and I like what I see. The show is crisp, funny, and Conan is at his best, thanks probably to his live tour this past summer. Whether or not he can garner ratings remains to be seen, but this is good tv. Show #2 was just as good as his premiere.

I agree with the 'crispness' of the show. The hour actually seems to go by fast, and in a good way.

Conan seems more relaxed on tbs. He looks like he's more free to do what he pleases.

On the other hand it was awful watching him on 'The Tonight Show'... it seemed like he had too many NBC execs breathing down his neck at the time. He looked really stilted and stressed by the pressure. I could tell he wasn't happy. NBC would have never let him host 'Tonight' with the beard he sports now, plus all his little goofy mannerisms. I think the boneheads at the peacock sanitized O'Brien way too much when he took over for Jay in order to appeal to a wider audience... just another of NBC's countless stupid mistakes. ::)

It looks like tbs execs are taking a "hands off" approach to 'CONAN' and letting the show evolve by itself. Let's hope this continues.

Overall the show has a real good look and feel to it, but the opening sequence should be jazzed up a little bit more. It seems kind of plain.

Conan's first show beat out Leno in the ratings.
It will be interesting to see how things unfold.

It even trumped both well-established late night cable staples "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central (time to restore sanity!):

I'd be curious how Conan fared against the "Adult Swim" lineup on TBS sister Cartoon Network.

Since when did George Steinbrenner work at NBC? :D

But George isn't around anymore, sooooooo......

I thought he was OK last night, but the guy from 30 Rock was NOT funny. The segment with Turner's Standards and Practices was funny with the sexual slang but the guy and his butt was a bit much. The outrageous Taiwanese News animation depicting Conan's show was top notch! :D

It's no TONIGHT show but I also like what I see.Conan does seem more comfortable and Basic Cable does seem to make him more relaxed. On "TONIGHT SHOW "he seemed very stressed and overwhelmed.

Wouldn't you be stressed and overwhelmed, too, if you were expected to produce huge results after replacing Leno?

I heard that another person (John Lurie?) wrote the NBC show theme, but backed out of being the original band leader, paving the way for Max.

I suppose that the new theme was because NBC owned the old one.

As for the new show, he does seem more relaxed. Perhaps it's because the problem with "Tonight" is that he had to fit his style into an established and more conservative format. He never really seemed comfortable there. Now, with an entirely new show, he can do whatever he wants with it.

As a bearded man myself, I am glad that Conan grew a beard while he was out of the public eye. It would have been difficult for him to do that while being on TV every night. It seems like no one is allowed to grow a beard. Either you have one or you don't! No stubble! No in-between!

I seem to recall Carson briefly having a beard while he hosted Tonight; Letterman, too, although I can't recall now if Letterman grew his while on NBC, or after moving to CBS.

I'm watching Conan and I'm not setting the DVR to record NBC.
Should I?
I hear on Leno's show there's some lady that'll be screaming "I'm not a witch" even though Halloween is long over.

Whatever...

Well, we're all different. I thought the standards and practices segment was a few minutes too long, but I liked Jack Brayer (the guy from 30 Rock).

I'm enjoying Conan's new show so far. The opening segment on the first night was brilliant. And I agree - he seems much more relaxed at TBS.

I've also noticed that Conan is funnier now than he was during the Tonight Show run.

I like the set overall. There's a strong resemblance of the old Tonight Show set combined with the closeness of Studio 6A from the Late Night era. The letters "BCB" (basic cable band) on the band podiums I thought should have be replaced with crescent moons but I guess I'll get used to this look. I was hoping for a throwback to the late '90s/early 2000 Late Night set, but with the show being in California that wouldn't work at all.

That opening theme is going to take some time getting used to. It's good that the closing theme didn't have to change this time around.

Letterman had a beard during the 2007-2008 writers strike so you might be thinking of that time period.

Night two was okay but viewers were down a third from night one...

A ratings drop should have been expected. And total ratings will likely slip to behind Leno & Letterman's show. But if Conan continues to 1) beat both Late Show & Tonight Show in the 18-49 money demo, and 2) make any improvement over Lopez Tonight in that previous timeslot, it only serves to prove that NBC jumped the gun.

The money demo matters, and its a safer bet that O'Brien's show will hold its numbers more than the Leno/Letterman shows to improve theirs.

It is interesting to me that in my time zone I can watch Conan at the same time (9pm) as the former "Jay Leno Show" in primetime. I must say, Conan is more entertaining so far than Jay ever was in this slot. The mountain zone is the only zone where this occurs, but it is great to watch Conan in prime-time here.

As for the set, yes it does resemble the Tonight Show set, surprising, since it was billed as "much more intimate". They must be doing some magic with the camera angles! The ocean background is nice, but as Conan actually commented on, has no connection to Southern California...in fact it looks more like Rio. Weird.

Why is Max Weinberg not on this show? Wasn't he with Conan for all 17 years at NBC?
From what I've heard, Max just grew tired of the grind and wanted to concentrate on other things. No hard feelings between him and Conan (or anyone else on the show) at all.

Any satellite subscriber can watch Conan in primetime over here on the West Coast, that's actually the time I've been watching him over here and I actually kinda like it better than watching a late night show half asleep at 11:35.
