Continuing to spred the Cancer...

Would you just Please choose a profession

Well, I don't want to give it away... I dabble a little in both. What do you think I should go for? Production? Engineer? Jesus Juice's Job? Scratch that, he's my new friend in Hot Springs! I can't do that to a friend. He's has to keep the lights, the phone and the woman turned on too...

I guess if I wanted to, buck for that next on-air gig and bring the best "yuk-yuk" of Dallas to Hot Springs! Kidding, I couldn't put ya'll through that. Even I can't stand it. I could have hot strippers in the studio, yeahhhh! I bet ya'll never had that before! getting all aroused by the sound of some girl sitting on a monitor making entertaining noises. I Bet ya'll bet ya'll can't wait for Market 5 to come to Hot Springs!

To be held up to such high standards as Howard Stern is just amazing! I don't think I can live up to that. I fear that I would let you all down. still, I'm honored that would would compare me to him (dobs tears with tissue).

I have prod skills. I can hold my own. Any production guy understand that it's not you, it's the sound. I have many friends that are Creative Imaging. We all drink at the same bars, we all laugh at the same jokes, and tell the same stories. Neither one of are afraid of each other or feel better than the other. In fact we trade a lot of audio back and forth just to help each other out. We air check, we compliment and criticize each other.

Someone's been hitting up my site and listening, my band width is getting hit hard from one of you listening to my audio.

Don't get me wrong, who ever is production in Hot Springs, I will find you, and I will trade audio with you. I hope that's not a cardinal sin over there.

All I did was explain who I was, I need some help cause I'm new in town, and you guys wake up. That's cool. We'll all learn in the end who will be friends and who will be foe. I have a unique sound. It's not any better or any worse than any other prod guy in town. It's just my sound as you have yours.

and wanttoknowmore, I promise you, don't limit yourself to what is in your four walls. I may just have something that you want just as much as you may have something that I want. You just never know.

I hear your young and impressionable. Keep an open mind, and maybe you can make a name for yourself in the industry.

I've never worked in the market, but I DID live there for two years. Some words of wisdom -

Don't try to drive down Central during racing season.
Learn your way around fast so the locals will not think you are Tourists. Because Tourist Season DOES mean you can hunt them.
Wok Downtown - wonderful food
Granny's Kitchen -Same
Sink's Kitchen - Same

In my experience, most things AWAY from the Touristy areas are reasonable rent and good neighborhoods. The closer to the Lake=more you pay.

Have fun, be careful and avoid the ASMSA students. More than likely, no matter what she tells you, she's not legal.

When you want to know who production is,,,that's me,,that's why I said e-mail me and I'll tell ya all ya need to know about the Spa city. Where to eat, what's good. Radiodiva hit on a little of it. Plus who ya need to know around here. Some people say they'll help ya, and I'm guessin you've already been givin the "lowdown" on all of us. Why Hot Springs?

Hey Doc,

Why are you headed to Hot Springs? I'm not knocking it. It's a great town to visit, but radio is small there and Arkansas has some rated markets that could use a great talent.

Also, I'm hearing that Citadel and/or Clear Channel is looking at buying some stations in HS. That's a scary thought for a new guy.

Why not look at moving to Little Rock or Fayettville? Fay is a party town with some great stations for a small market.

Moving to Hot Springs wasn't so much a location destination, it was more of a change of venue. They picked me. What I'm coming to Hot Springs to do, I can do there for a 5 year stretch and move on if something better comes along. I can't do this in Dallas cause the market's saturated and the elders are scared of me. That whole young Vs. older scenario.

With Dallas, I lived here, someone took a chance on me and it grew from there. I wanted my name to be well known in the market with people in radio that mattered, but could care less about the publics thoughts. That's accomplished and I've done everything that I can here. This company in Hot Springs is also rolling the dice to see what I bring to the table and it's a new challenge. I'll prove to them just as I have with everyone in Dallas I'm a good catch.

To me, market number has nothing to do with anything. That's more of an interest to people just out of broadcasting school. Radio has a set standard. Keep the boards tight and the audio warm. So what does that have to do with market number? As long as I'm at a station that has a signal and revenue to keep the tower burning and money in my account, I'll do what ever they want.

I'm not really an "On Air Guy" I'm more behind the scenes, so I guess that's why market number is lost on me. I just do what I have to do to stay in the game, and right now in Dallas I'm running out of Aces.

Besides, everyone else I've met in radio has a story to tell. I've only done radio in Dallas for the past 10 years. It's time for me to start experiencing my own stories to tell.

You're correct, I did say that. I also said that I wanted to do strippers in the studio. That was me making fun of typical wann'a be Stern people. What does that have to do with me? Nothing cause I don't think I'll be on air! Someone had made a comment about me coming to be air talent and that I was un..... Jesus JUICE! How could I forget my new best friend? I like him, he's funny! You'll see... People will know that if Jesus Juice is around, Doc can't be far behind and vice versa. We'll sing songs like "My buddy and me like to climb up a tree, my buddy and me, where the best friends that could Beeee....."

I guess it'll be a matter of time that you'll learn that I am extremely sarcastic. In here, you should never take me serious.

Besides, isn't that the norm when you have a larger market person going in to a smaller market? They think that cause they have the experience of "Market 1-10" they know radio and you don't cause you're in a smaller market, so what do you know?

oh, I hate cheesy radio. I've only done it to make someone else look like a goof.

As a LR radio vet from the 80's, I can tell you I had more fun there than in larger markets. I wouldn't have minded Hot Springs, either.

To The PRICE is right...

Thanks for the kind comments about up north; I appreciate it. Things have been terribly busy since our arrival - lots of stuff happening with our impending venture as well as a couple of temporary offers to help get us through until the venture comes to fruition.
