Could 94 WYSP come back at all?

I am wondering if 94 WYSP could come back? And yeah I know that the ratings were not really good, but did they have to put sports on and kill 1/4 of the rock radio in philly?

And the answer for Codey284 about putting WYSP back on 94.1 is:NOPE. it's all a bout BILLING, as BILLING=$$$. Sportstalk is an easier sell ,and 'YSP was #4 in a 4 station rock market.

Hopefully. WIP could've made changes to the station and remain on AM. For WYSP to return and thrive, WYSP could go Active Rock instead of Classic Rock. The reason of their demise was that they couldn't compete well with WMMR, it might've been because MMR played what 'YSP played plus some 60's and newer rock.

If one wants to cling to a delusion, so be it, but it's not coming back, hopefully or otherwise.

I dunno about WYSP making a comeback on anolog radio with a live and local airstaff (my guess is that CBS felt they've tried all of there options as far as that went.)
Pasteing this link directly into any player on your computer that can play MP3 streams will give you the jockless, "WMySP" version of "The rock you grew up with" (though they dont say that in the stations branding these days), powered by Jelly

So no you dont needd a smartphone or HD radio to hear WYSP .

Or, it could be that WIP has the potential to be a stronger, higher billing station on FM than WYSP could have ever been as a rock station. It does not have as much to do with WMMR as you'd like to think.

somebody over at CBS did tell me they felt they could do better billing with WIP on FM better then they did with Rock on 94.1

Not bloody likely on anything but an HD-2, 3, or 4. And it's already on one.

Why I don't think WYSP will ever resurface (and keep in mind that I listened to all but their morning shows, and enjoyed the station):

For a station that used its calls as its brand, consider that CBS chose to cut them loose, not park them, and they're no longer available. More of a clue, than a reason, per se.

As mentioned previously, the number 4 rock station in a 4 rock station town.

WIP-FM is already significantly eroding the overall audience of the Fanatic.

WIP should be less expensive to operate as mentioned repeatedly by others.

Little has changed at WIP on FM, except Eskin's exit, and I don't know if you could make a credible argument that he pulled down the overall success of the station.

WYSP was CBS' least successful property in Philadelphia on FM or AM.

They already tried active rock, classic rock, modified classic rock, and guy talk. Nothing they've done since Stern's exit has helped much. If they chose to play all-xylophone jazz, "active" polynesian, or raw industrial noises, then they don't need the WYSP brand.

Demographically, WIP's audience likely includes most of WYSP's audience anyway.

My "magic 8-ball" said "no".

So you mean they spent all that time taking out a trademark on the phrase "The Rock You Grew Up With" for nothing?

WYSP was not the only classic rock station CBS owned. Nor are they unlikely to ever operate another classic rock station. The trademark will have a chance to be used again.

Also, it keeps anyone from ever using the slogan on a classic rock station they operate in a market CBS has an interest in, which makes it even more valuable.

I doubt if WYSP could come back, why should it? With WMMR, WRFF, and WMGK rock is pretty well covered in Philadelphia. I think a big problem is rock music today. Where are the new rock acts? Besides Hot Chelle Rae and Foster The People, where are the new, mainstream rock acts? All the big rock acts have one thing in common. They are all old, U2, Van Halen, Bob Seger, Springsteen, etc.

As AM dies as a technology, and as alternative music delivery technology prospers, the trend is going to be fewer music stations on FM, not more.

Ironically, we have the opposite problem in New York. Classic rock has always done well here but we've had trouble maintaining a modern rock station while you guys have two. But I'd say that the loss of our most recent modern rocker is a special case. WRXP gained a lot of ground in its last months (it's final share was 2.5) but when your parent company is in debt, that's not good enough. The station has been tanking since it got sold and flipped to news.

Hot Chelle Rae plays on WMMR? If that ever happens, I'll start going back to MP3.
