Could Jeff and Jer end up on Kyxy 96.5?

Hey, I'm sorry if this sounds like a tired subject.
But with Jeff and Jer's audience (and their name recognition), and with talk of Kyxy being sold, could they end up on their?
There's nothing wrong with Kyxy's current morning show and I'd be sorry to hear it go. But it is a question that nobody has asked yet.

I think Jeff and Jer and Kyxy would fit like a glove.
Or maybe an old sock...?

The obvious question is, why would Mr. Lynch dump a successful show for one which has been off the air for almost a year? Also, remember J&J's last dealings with BCA's VP Programming/Operations did not end well...

Would they fit in the lifegroup? This is Mainstream AC.

Yes, they would!
Consider the following:
1. Jeff and Jer have an aging audience. It is not exactly a Channel 933 crowd, and I'm not sure they're even a Star or Sophie crowd. Much of the music and listeners who used to tune to Hot AC have moved on to stations like Kyxy now.
I realy do not see them working at a Classic Rock station, and would they really fit on a station like Sophie anymore?

2. Kyxy is Mainstream AC, yes. But, Kyxy today does not sound much different than B100 did at the time that Jeff and Jer worked there. Again, a lot of that same music has made its way to Kyxy now.

3. Kyxy already has other personalities that are also from the B100 Jeff and Jer era, such as Gene Knight. So they would fit right in.

4. It would also be a good way for Kyxy to "freshen up" the format a bit and go to the next level. I want to stress, Kyxy already has great talent on in the morning and througout the day, so I'm not advocating that the current talent needs to go. But still, it's a business and these things happen. Someone once said to me that "Today's AC is yesterday's Top 40." Well, Jeff and Jer are yesterday's Top 40 morning team.

5. Money. Imagine what Kyxy's management could make with Jeff and Jer as the morning show on Kyxy? I'm guessing Kyxy's format is not one that requires a lot of investment as it is. This is a morning show that is desparate to get back on the air. CBS (or successors) probably would not need to make that big of an investment to get them, and they have the name recognition. The audience will come for Jeff and Jer, they'll stay for the music. It would be a win-win.

Well, those are my thoughts on it, anyway.

KyXy is a cash register tied to the antenna with minimal operating costs. Don't expect any ch-ch-changes if the station sold.

Yep - don't know what they pay the morning show, but you can bet that to afford JnJ they'd have to add millions to the annual sales and frankly KYXY is good enough at what it does, that a too-high-priced morning show could not bring much to the table. This ain't the old days.

Hello. Don't know what you people have been smoking but I want some of it. Kyxy has been quite successful in the past serving their audience. Their morning show has been as successful as any soft ac morning show in the country. It has heritage and equity in the market with Sonny West for 20+ years. This show knows it's audience; has consistenly delivered an on-target show at a bargain-basement price (in relation to JnJ). This is a new day and age in radio. Fat-cat morning shows like JnJ are a thing of the past because what little ratings bumps they deliver it can't justify the huge expense to revenue ratio. Kyxy has been and is still a market leader in billing (just check past Miller Kaplans.) One of the reasons is because Kyxy is frugal with their marketing and expense budgets. That's an attractive aspect to smart, potential owners. I wish I had a crystal ball to see what the future held for JnJ but in my opinion, the last run for Jeff and Jer on Star proved to me that they no longer cared about producing good radio; they sounded tired and lackadaisical with their eye solely on the paycheck and no interest at all on/for their listeners. Guess time will tell and we could all be wrong. Weren't they supposed to be back on the air last January? Still waiting to hear that nationally syndicated show. And what happened to the garage thing they were doing? Oh, they lost interest in it. Hmmmm. Go figure.

Tina, go back an re-read my post. You mis-read what I wrote.
NO WHERE did I suggest that Kyxy needed them, needed to improve or needed another morning show. I was careful to state just the opposite. I simply suggested that they might fit in there, that's all.

Is everyone so bitter at Jeff and Jer that any suggestion that they go to any station brings out angry responses? If so, I guess they are doomed :(

You answered the question: They have an aging audience. An audience that doesn't spend money with advertisers that spend money to ... advertise.

IT's hard to beat the CUME of KyXy. If you want Jeff and Jer at KyXy, someone will have to go.

They would have a bit stronger numbers but a blown budget and that means no profit.

Sorry Garrett, San Diego has changed since you left for Blubblock, Texas. KyXy has changed with their audience music wise and the audience is listening.

It's Lubbock, not "Blubbock."

The panhandle has more cows than humans.

Your theory is a bit off center, Garrett, an aging audience -- and I'm moving from one age group to another next year -- doesn't spend money. It's the 25-54 that key advertisers go for.
