That's totally absurd... If JACK came into the market, MOJO would get STRONGER! It's simple, Mojo is a fixture in Cincinnati, that radio station defied the nay-sayers and is so well executed. The station was recently #1 in W 25-54 and adults 25-54. MOJO continues to be in the top 5. JACK formats right now have big Male 25-54 numbers. Women are MOJO's target.
The station has made such in-roads to the target, if that station were to make any modifications, listeners would go crazy, take to the streets. There would be picketing at the studios, and it wouldn't be a pretty site.
What I can't fathom is that anyone would break something that's working soo well. If I had the cash, I'd buy the cluster and hold the biggest street festival with their core artists on stage.
Today's broadcasters are looking for the "flavor of the moment". Many who abandoned the Jammin' oldies format did it because they lived in the past, instead of being timely topical. Many JO's tried to lean Urban, which was the biggest mistake. Pro's should look at JO as a "Hot AC", not an oldies or urban format.
The same thing will happen to JACK, BOB, PETE or whatever the name of the day is. Listeners will get tired of the format and so many programmers will do that format wrong. I give JACK 2 to 3 years.
The ONLY benefit from it is that stations will make the playlists bigger and do a better job of researching the music.
