Could the End be near for WWCD ?

and to the Dispatch and their coverage of radio, since they are down to such a few reporters, they pretty much just work off of press releases, AP wire and Cleveland Plain Dealer stores anymore. if you tell them they will print it, thats why JakeJ gets mentions in the paper so much, he takes the time to use them as part of his marketing, its not that they love his show that much.

Wow, I had no idea I was that powerful, that I could force the Dispatch to include those listings of the show in its "Highlights" block. Wait a minute, if that's true, then how come "Secrets" isn't in there ALL the time?
You know, it's weird, Allfirdup -- everyone who's ever heard the show seems to like it, and everyone who hasn't, hates it!

Tim it was ment as a complement, and i never said you forced them, that's what the highlights section is for. How else would they know ahead of time what you were going to play. and I am sure they are limited on space at times and don't always have room to print every episode. But i really do commend you for using them as a marketing tool.

oh and i have listened both over the air and downloaded some episodes, i like some of the stuff you play, but you make the assumption that just because you like things every one else should too. and just a suggestion please change the opening of the show, that abrupt end to the opening of Revolution drives me crazy.

I encourage everyone on the board to Listen to YTS, here is a link to they current show,

Boys, lets get back to CD101...we hardly need another never-ending deluge of self promotion of YTS...

Yes I have heard the show, I sometimes like it, other times I think it's waste of airtime. I have heard 4 familiar songs on the show, the only factor that makes that interesting is that I was on the air 20+ years and in radio, in excess of 40 years, so I have heard a whole lot of music over the years! Some people like it, some don't, and what I can't stand in the constant interruptions in everything about YTS's... which tends to make the entire enterprise a whole lot more distasteful to me.

Tim, if you have a good thing, promote it well, and carefully, rather than making enemies of potential listeners. Your thing is just that, your thing, a whole lot of us just don't care, and in some cases, your pushy attitude actually succeeds in pushing people away...

Sorta like the dumb little kid on Facebook.

And if Roger got 7m for the station from OSU, and got out, (I didn't know what the purchase price was), or whatever, and is out, congrats to him... The CD101 management did something stupid, regrettable, but it was their choice...hopefully somebody will learn from their mistake. I already know of some other project to attempt to replace CD101, maybe that's the next step!

I was incorrect in the 7mil for the station it was only 5.7 according to Business First 8/2/2010

The deal will pay Fun With Radio $2.25 million at closing and the remaining $3.45 million over 20 years. In addition, the contract said the $5.7 million sale price is considered below market value. Fun With Radio will have the station appraised and the difference between the appraisal and the sale price will be classified as a charitable contribution, which would give the station tax benefits.

that's easy...when the sold off the license, they placed the entire value of the business @ equipment assets, and real estate. the average well equipped station, much less a stand alone fm, without a transmitter plant, lets conservatively guess $175,000, real estate, if they have it, (I didn't see it listed) potentially 200,000 or so...

they shot their market value to hell, as the business isn't even a radio station any more, but rather a content producer. Most people value the broadcast license as the most valuable asset of a radio station, CD101 doesn't have that!

guess they made one hell of a contribution to tOSU!

First, I'm sorry Allfirdup, as usual I jumped to the wrong conclusion and then overreacted. Thanks for the kind words, and actually the link you provided is to my most recently archived past episode, but the most recent one aired was YTS-296 (dated "OCT21") and can be downloaded or played at www.wcrsfm.org/audio/user/18. The reason "Revolution" stops when it does is that I like to say "You say you want a revolution?" at the exact point at which John Lennon began singing those same words. I'd sort of be crazy to change the intro at this time, with all of the Occupy revolutions that are now underway all across the country, but when they end, who knows, maybe the current intro will, too.
And knowbetter, I'm not sure what exactly you mean about the constant interruptions, because a lot of times I'll play 3-5 songs in a row without saying anything. I probably say either the full name of the show or just "Secrets" one out of every three or four times that I talk, but to me that's not nearly as bad as guys who think they have to identify their station's call letters all the time (like before each and every song). THAT'S what drives me up a wall! Is it the occasional references to Secrets Central, the Secrets Studio, the Secrets Stage, and the Secrets Spotlight that have you throwing your radio into the toilet every now and then? Cause I can try to cut down on them if that's a problem. And okay, maybe you've only heard 4 familiar songs on the show, but how many familiar bands and singers have you heard? Hundreds, right? That's what I think helps make the show easy for people to enjoy -- if someone is a big fan of the Beach Boys, for example, then maybe I'm crazy but I think it's fair to assume that he or she is going to like just about everything that he or she hears on "Secrets" that's performed by the Beach Boys, regardless of whether they're familiar with it or not.

I probably would've been yanked off this board a long time ago if I had constantly done that. I'll write this about WWCD -- more than anything else, I feel sorry for Mr. Vaughan, if he slipped up big-time and did or didn't do something pertaining to the language in the LMA agreement that helped to bring all of this on. I'm not the smartest guy in the world and have made huge mistakes, too, so I can't feel good about anyone else who has maybe messed up in similar colossal fashion.

I see not buying the 102.5 the signal when CD101 had the chance as not a good move. LMAs, even longer term ones, appear to be no guarantee to last the term of the lease agreement. What are the advantages to a long term LMA vs purchasing a license
outright? It dose appear they could have purchased the 102.5 signal if they have wanted to. Maybe the asking price was to much?

Dose anyone know for sure the term of this LMA?? A five year LMA is what has been reported on the web.

Can't wait to see the article in the Columbus Dispatch! They say they have a couple of reporters working on the story.

A cynical view could be that the Dispatch cares about this more than they otherwise would given that WWCD is a consistent advertiser and event-promoter in publications Dispatch owns, including The Other Paper, Columbus Alive and Columbus Monthly.

Hypothetically speaking, could CD101 buy 91.5 and move their format there or is 91.5 strictly for non commercial use?

91.5 is indeed in the reserved, non-comm band. No dice, unless Roger wants to start selling "underwriting". (Hmm.)

There are actually parts of the U.S. that get commercial stations below 92, since they're OK in Canada (89X in Windsor/Detroit, 91.7 in the Niagara area, etc.).

Hypothetically yes he could.. however no he could not run 'full fledged' commericals.. He would have to create a non profit and rely on donations and underwriters to support the station ... and basied on the typical demographic listener of CD101 I don't know how well they would want to support CD101.. however CD101's Alternative format would be one that I could see listener supported ... The loyality of their core listenership would likely 'save' it.

However, I dont know how the late Rob Case wife is supporting 91.5 WHKC as is .. I guess (guessing..) the ministries on air are 'underwriting' their time on air (since she can't sell commercials) ... and that's enough money to pay for the WSYX Tower rent, electric etc.. to keep the lights on (I never have heard them ask for money .. and they have nothing local outside of the automated music of their DAD32 computer when they are not airing national preachers) .. and based on that leads me to believe she has no desire to 'sell' it at this point in time.

If Radio U can be listener-supported, with a smaller and younger audience, I think 102.5 could definitely be with their larger and money-holding, young professional audience.

IMO, they could be the station they WANT to be as a non-comm. They wouldn't have to play the songs to keep the lights on: RHCP, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, or any of the other bands the indie kids complain about hearing. Plus, being a non-comm would give them the street cred their audience goes for. The "community station" image would only be further enhanced.

Fascinating thoughts, but you can't just move WWCD lock, stock and barrel to 91.5.

We have no idea if Roger even wants to go this route. He's a for-profit businessman, and even if Rob Case's widow is interested, he can't make any money off this possibility.

Watch for Salem to complete acquisition of 102.5 and take it conservative talk. Not sure of the timeline, but it's going to happen.

What makes you think it's going to happen any time soon? It's been very quite lately. People aren't
talking about this anymore, at last not out in public.

Yes, when Salem takes over, I believe they will go conservative talk.
