Could the End be near for WWCD ?

I want to feel bad for them but they 'gambled' by selling 101.1 Mhz without having a license to call their own. Looks like this one is coming back to bite them.

That's basically how I feel about it as well.

Also, if they have any intention of staying alive -- whether on-air or online-only -- they should resume streaming immediately.

Then maybe the FCC needs to step in.

What's the reason? "Removal Of Beloved Alternative Rock Format For Conservative Talk I Hate"?

One more time...the FCC Does NOT Get Involved In Format Changes. Period. Be it alt-rock, classical or standards. 102.5 could play klezmer music and the FCC wouldn't care.

Looks legit from here. Salem doesn't do stunt websites.

Now, such sites have happened - Clear Channel's local operations guy up here in Akron/Canton actually created a full-blown fake country format site for WHOF/101.7 North Canton, which actually flipped to AC as "My 101.7" when it moved up into the Canton market. (I may never forgive Keith for that :D)

But Salem? They don't do online stunting.

And I'd listen to TANK1. He was the very first poster on the Cleveland board to tell us that CBS Radio was looking for a PD for a new sports talk station, which actually launched a few months after his message (at the time, a lot of us, including yours truly, were skeptical it would ever happen). I don't know who he is, but he has connections.

So get ready, Columbus...your daily dose of Bill Bennett, Dennis Prager, Mike Gallagher, Michael Medved and the like is on the way.

Now, will Roger and Company return CD 101 as an LMA/sale on 101.7? An anonymous tipster told me that could have been the reason they never fully converted to "CD102.5"...but I don't think Runnymede would give up on the station.

And if Roger LMAs...he'd better get more protection than he got with 102.5.

Anyone who's interested can get a real-life dose of former Air America personality Ed Schultz out at the Firefighters Union Hall at 379 W. Broad St. tonight, as his MSNBC television show will be broadcast live from there at both 8:00 and 11:00. I was at the joint for last night's "Ed Show" and afterwards gave him CDs of last week's "Secrets" episodes, both of which featured anthems for the Occupy movement -- wonderful music from the '60s, '70s, and '80s that I related to the discontent of today.

I just hope that if and when the CD101 obituary is written, some mention is made of the alternative music options that continue to exist on the Columbus radio dial. There's no reason for CD101 listeners to think that this is the end of the world; actually, it's going to result in the opening up of a brand new one for them. For every format in this town that fails (or falters by moving to a weaker signal), and for every station that fails, "Secrets" just picks up more and more listeners. And I've got no problem with that!

This is now being talked about on the CD101 Facebook page:

Like this one from CD101 itself:

CD101 fm Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

and more from CD101:

CD101 fm As has been previously stated by our General Manager, Randy Malloy, we are currently in contract negotiations. As with any negotiation, we cannot comment publicly until all the details are resolved. As soon as we have more information we will make it public as quickly as we can.

What do you make of this message from General Manager Randy Malloy?

A message from General Manager Randy Malloy:

The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated - Mark Twain

As WWCD celebrates its 21st year here in Columbus, we have always strived to bring Columbus new music, support the arts, be good community partners, spotlight local musicians, raise monies for local children’s charities and countless other things that we as a locally owned and operated business are passionate about.

We are committed to continuing all these things at our home of 102.5 FM. We have a good working relationship with Southeastern Ohio Broadcast Systems and will continue to be for many years to come. We are not going anywhere.

I want to personally thank all the people who have posted to this thread - positive or negative. We read your comments, all of them, and we care what your opinion is. We cannot always commenton every detail because some things are timely, sensitive and not really for public discussion or debate.

I encourage you to listen and go to The Sounding Board to give us your opinions. Support us by frequenting the advertisers that support the station. Please feel free to stop by our office at 1036 South Front Street in Columbus to say hello and see the people that work here, see our passion for what we do.

Lastly, call to talk to me anytime at 614-221-9923 x127 and I will be happy to talk with you. Thank you again for all your support and encouragement. We appreciate it and we will continue to serve central Ohio to the best of our abilities. And since it is election day, I am Randy Malloy and I approve this message……

That they seem to have been able to work out a solution to their problem, or got a judge to issue an injunction preventing any movement pending some conditions. I wish them the best, and hope this time, they achieved a longer term solution. Maybe they were able to meet the purchase price Salem offered, so hopefully, they can become a real radio station again!

time will tell! & PS, wonder what Randy considers a negative comment?

This appears to me to be a GM just trying to put out fires. I also hear the fat lady is getting ready to sing.

Are CD101 Columbus’ Days Numbered?

We are not going anywhere”, the fact of the matter is that Salem was sure enough that they would be programming 102.5 to have a website built and ready to go live. How did it get to this point? Something had to happen to cause the owners of 102.5 to look for an alternate programming source. The Facebook message to me read like something to calm listeners and advertisers down in the short term, while whatever issue there may be is resolved.

I wish I could be more optimistic but radioinsight.com, which broke the story, still isn't so sure, even after this latest release.
I mean--the signal change, the office change, the drop in online streaming...individually they all sound like they have a reasonable basis, but altogether...smoke, fire, all that.

Well, he also posted a virtually identical "we're here to stay" message to a thread on the Columbus Underground Board that had been discussing the possible demise of WWCD. While most posts to that thread were supportive, many criticized the station for being too musically conservative/repetitive, and some others were critical of the fact that the station didn't stream, the fact that they sold their broadcast license, etc. Maybe the "negative comments" remark was directed more at that thread?

Regardless, watching this drama unfold is entertaining!

Here's a link to the CU thread:

Roo, I think you are right...what a bunch of mind numbing drivel! Glad it's over there!

It's all connected.

As I write this, I'm listening to the streaming audio for Gary Richards' latest venture... "Talk 1460" (WABQ/Painesville) in east suburban Cleveland.

He was the LMA operator of the station which had the thread that inspired my joke post, and the founder of the station which was originally WWCD, before Roger V. sold it and moved the format to the 102.5 LMA.

My head is spinning...

I was thinking of posting the new Talk 1460 streaming link on infamous, "Is WVKO in Trouble" thread but that would have P.O. a few people. They wouldn't have wanted that thread to be revived for just posting the link to the new Talk 1460 streaming audio.

Since WVKO-AM will be available to LMA in a few weeks time, maybe Gary Richards would be interested in LMAing WVKO-AM again?

I really think that bridge is burnt, at least with Gary any way.
