There are three players in regional and five signals.

KLNV full San Diego county signal, including North County.

La Invasora. Two signals, same programming except the weaker one (a class A) runs Tijuana spots and the better one runs SD spots. The Class C does not do too well in North County, but better than 99.3

La Mejor. Different programmings, two frequencies. The 99.3 is for SD, but not good in North County. The Class A is for Tijuana.

You also have KLQV, perceived to be "Mexican" but not grupera with a signal nearly identical, after upgrading a few months ago, to that of KLNV.

In pop, the players are Digital, Pulsar, Latina and Exa. They all chew up less than 4 pop / ballad shares.

On AM there is W Radio, Radio Fórmula and 1470 and 860 with decent San Diego signals.

ok so univision is the major player! does la mejor not have a chance in this market? who rules the 3 to 7 drive time?? any good jocks that dominate? do Dj from San diego ever go to remotes in mexico?? is their alot of night life(clubs ) in san diego?

Also dont forget KSDO radio nueva vida, though I think this station doesnt count.

Why cant Univision have a third station in San Diego, maybe buy out KSDO and make it spanish talk to compete with 1470, and take away the Univision affiliation away from them.

PM Drive 18-34 Trend through October.
KLNV (La Nueva)
XHTY (La Inbasura)
KLQV (Recuerdo)
XHOCL (La Peor)

La Nueva has a little bit more than half the regional audience in 3-7.

SD stations have such high rates that generally they do not get much business in Tijuana. When KLQV was pop, we did some promotions at clubs in TJ, though.

ohhh that was cold David E (la peor) hmmm..... San diego just doesnt appeal to me as a market what part of the population is spanish??

27.6% in 12+.

San Diego is a big small town (as opposed to say Kansas City which is a small big city). If you can figure out how to afford to live here it's a great place to be, but we've always had the "sunshine premium" in which all employers (not just radio stations) figure you're willing to work for less money because we have such nice weather and pay accordingly. Large corporate headquarters are rare. Because of the hilly/mountainous terrain and large size of the county, it's almost impossible to drive around San Diego County listening to one radio station: at some point it will become too weak to listen to and you'll have to find something else to listen to (that's why we love the XM radio in my wife's new Honda Pilot and I've got an iPod cradle in my van). Because of that and the large hispanic population we have a pretty fragmented radio market. Look at the ratings and you see lots of markets where the top rated stations are pulling 6 to 10 in the 12+ numbers and even 5th placed stations have a 5. In San Diego #1 12+ barely gets a 5.

The cost of living is high, but the city is beautiful.

MVS, though, is by no means Mexico's biggest radio company. GRC and its associated GRM and OIR leads in billings, followed by Acir, RadioRama, Radio Fórmula and a couple of others of SOMER type before you get to MVS, which has a realtively small portfolio.

There is no way of knowing what MVS will do with La Mejor in TJ... they just got it and are staffing it now. The signal makes it somewhat marginal.

well im thinking they do own more stations then univision does or am i wrong about that... and their exa stations do very well in mexico and their mejor brand is also growing inside of mexico... is Sandiego the only us signal they own?

Omega... well I'M thinking English is not your first language and that's OK...

week = Seven days make a whole week

weak = (not strong) 1040 AM has a very weak signal and can barely be heard in downtown San Diego.

In terms of billing, Univsion Rado probably outbills MVS' radio division by a factor of 5 to 6... maybe more. Their Mexico City Exa barely stays in the top 20, and they are in some realively small markets in Mexico... the total station count is about 30, which are the old Globo FM and Estéreo Rey FMs that Joaquín Vargas licensed in the early 70's, and which stayed alive mostly due to good use of the SCA channels.

Example... a 1 x spot on Exa in Mexico City is around U$S 200, while a spot on KLVE or KSCA is 10 times that. A 1 x spot on Exa or La Mejor in Veracruz is around U$S 25, per the most recent MPM.

Exa is in Tijuana and Cd. Juárez on the US border. They have no station _in_ the US itself.

Hey david E where online can i find a map to the signal coverage of LA MEJOR? Who does mornings at the other stations? how many total spanish stations in the market?

There is no mapl of the coverage of either of the La Mejor signals that I know of.

The market has these FMs in Spanish

Exa, La Mejor (2 frequencies), Latina, Pulsar, Digital, La Invasora (2 frequencies) La Fusion / IMER, La Caliente, La Nueva, Recuerdo.

On AM, there are 860, 960, 1030, 1270, 1310, 1420, 1550, 1470 and 1130.

thanks david are you sure la mejor has 2 frequencies i was not aware of this what other frequency are they on?? i had a chance to lissen to la nueva (univision) and noticed the 3-7 guy was on in san diego and in vegas is their a reason for that? how far are these cities from each other? have you ever worked in this market? do you consult the univision station their?
