Countdown to end of radio

WCBE should really focus on being a community / music / arts type station instead of duplicating what WOSU is doing already with NPR on 89.7 ... Never understood why we need TWO stations airing the exact same programming word for word a great deal of the day.

I only like to listen over the air myself. Sure wish the WCRS-LP CE will fix the audio problems.
The audio quality over WCRS-LP and its 98.3 translator has sounded very good over the last few years. Now the audio "Bugs" as you called them last week are also bugging me!

They really need to fix the audio quality issues.. I was listening to 98.3 FM in Upper Arlington today around 6pm-7:30pm on the drive to work and the audio was in mono and distorted in parts.. It sounded bad and as much as I tried to listen to it for the value of the "unique" content it was hard.

I did an A/B test between 102.1 and 98.3 while 102.1 wasn't distorted like 98.3 but the quality was not what I would have considered broadcast quality (but was tolerable) -- the signal at least on 102.1 didn't distort in parts.. [The broadcast on 98.3 sounded like they are picking up a low bit rate internet stream and it was over modulated -- I really hope that's not the case as it would be in FCC violation as 98.3 must be fed via "off air FM" signal]

They really need to get their act together if they want to be taken seriously... or just turn in the license.

There will be a proverbial fire lit under people behinds when I come in on Tuesday..... Just saying.

As for the mono... this is something I don't get why we are doing as a majority of our shows broadcast in Stereo. But that is what WCRS has always broadcast in Mono for penetration and coverage mainly. Again I don't control those decisions I have to answer other people as well.

On 98.3FM, it is just airing 102.1FM as it air over the air.. off an antenna. That why 98.3 distorts in parts due the signal it takes off the air.

I take all of these concerns seriously because I always want us to be a better station for Columbus, programming and listener wise as well. I thank you for pointing these concerns out to me and I will get working on these as soon as I can.

Thanks,
De'Shawn Isaac

Today, the magaine that printed the story in the original post of this thread, RadioInk, said it received a letter from GM saying:

GM has no near term plans to eliminate AM and FM from GM vehicles. We are committed to providing consumers innovative services that dramatically enhance the driving and riding experience. We expect AM/FM radio to be one of the choices consumers have in our vehicles.

So there you go.

I'd also note that the guy who wrote this article wrote another one declaring rock radio dead. Tell that to the operators who are still making a fortune off of it. Of course the question (and not just for rock radio) is if they're squeezing the last profits out of a medium that is shooting itself in the foot by doing everything possible to water down the product and hasten its own irrelevance to younger people. I.e., Bain Capital style vulture capitalism. Go for the quick payoff, and building for the future be damned.

Guess what, Jake...you're going down the tubes with us....

I can't be sure about 102.1, but the 98.3 FM frequency that I can receive where I live has sounded so bad most of the time this year that I now think of WCRS as essentially an internet-only station. At least that's what I tell myself it is, so that I don't get too depressed when I turn on 98.3 at 7:00 on a Thursday or Friday night. I strongly recommend while talking with others that they stream the show through our website, so no, I don't feel that I'll be going down with anyone. Bring it on, Detroit!

Jake,

I only like to listen over the air myself. Sure wish the WCRS-LP CE will fix the audio problems.

Also, noticed WCRS-LP has been making scheduled changes over the past few months or so.
Doe to listener response?

On WCRS-LP radio:
Noticed Fridays 'Yesterdays Top Secrets' show was a repeat of the previous Friday airing. Maybe
it was repeated last Friday because the last five minutes of the show were not aired that previous
Friday. Ironic that the host Jake was cut off mid-sentence when he was complaining about the bad audio on the WCRS-LP 98.3 translator.

Sure hope WCRS-LP can fix the audio problems once and for all. The audio was sounding very good last year so this is not asking too much. At least it's a goal that should be obtainable.

What happened two Fridays ago was that something malfunctioned, and the episode of "Secrets" from the previous night is what came on at 7:00. I immediately called someone about it, but he couldn't switch things over to get the proper episode on the air until 7:05. So when it finally did come on, of course the last five minutes at its other end were lost, which included its closing instrumental.
I figured that anyone tuning or streaming in at 7 and hearing the start of the show from the night before wasn't going to hang in there and assume that the proper one would come on soon, and instead just promptly turned it off. So last Friday I made things right, and YTS-431 was heard in its full undelayed and unshortened glory! :) Or at least it was heard until the ton of static and interference that's been plaguing 98.3 for the past few months came on the scene at around 7:15 or 7:20.
