Countdown to the End of WKNR

Now that the NFL draft is over, the Cleveland sportstalk stations will have to spend 99% of their time for the next month talking about what the Browns did, didn't do, should've done, and what everybody thinks about it.

Oh....that's right: those hundred or so most-active local sportstalk callers determine what we all will hear on 850 and 92.3. That's right...forgot about that...LOL.

Good, Lord....we're in a baseball season and the NBA playoffs begin this weekend. Would love to hear a little bit about those two pro sports on local sportstalk radio. Does anybody else out there feel like I do?

You talk NBA playoffs in Cleveland without the Cavs involved, and you may as well play lullabies.

You wanna hear NBA playoff talk, go listen to 1540 where Mike & Mike, Cowherd, Van Pelt, and Gottlieb will give you more than your fill (especially since ESPN/ABC are the home of the playoffs)...that is after THEY get through talking about the draft.

Why can't you understand that Cleveland is a football town? Hell, the only other topic which was able to penetrate through the draft talk in the last couple of weeks was the OSU spring game!

>>we're in a baseball season and the NBA playoffs begin this weekend

And as of today the Tribe is in first place, about .003 ahead of the Tigers and White Sox.
I'm sure people would talk about them.

Myself, I've never considered WTAM a real sportstalk station (they aren't)...but, at least they do mix in Indians and Cavs talk with Browns, and OSU.

The two fulltime sportstalk stations should change their names to "Browns 850 WKNR" or "923...The Browns fan". Ridiculous! Do you see ESPN doing JUST football most of the time?

Hey, I see the Cleveland PPMs...the entire report...not just the 12+ on various internet sites. Neither WKNR or 923TheFan are exactly blowing up the ratings...not even "in-demo". Yet, they keep pounding what sounds like 90% football.

I post here because I know staff at both stations read this board. I'm hoping they'll talk about the comments of "those crazy people on the radio boards" in their programming meetings, and at least consider the reality that while this is a granted football-passionate area, we are a THREE SPORT pro market...not one.

Let the hoopla of the draft die down, and they'll get into some Tribe talk.

There's the saying that the draft is "Cleveland's Super Bowl", and it really is kinda true. That's when the "next big thing" gets picked and the proclaimation is made that this guy will take us to the promised land.

When the NBA draft comes around it'll be more of the same (albeit on a little smaller scale), especially if the ping pong balls in the hopper go the Cavs' way.

Relax.

No reason to relax...I'm not hyped about the situation...just dissappointed.

But, hey...I had an insider call me just minutes ago to leak this breaking information: the Browns have installed all new orange toilets in the restrooms in the Browns offices at the stadium.

The organization has scheduled a news conference later today to announce this major upgrade to the team. It will be breaking news on all national and Cleveland media.

WKNR & 923TheFan will go into live, emergency 24-hour live coverage of the new orange toilets....even dropping all advertising in order to fully cover this incredible, life-changing event.

Oh, this just in...in honor of this critical event in Browns history, CBS is changing the name of 923The Fan to 923TheBrownsFlush.

Some interesting thoughts here on the overblown draft coverage, but it must be noted that Cleveland had the highest ratings TV wise in the country for the first two rounds of the draft. That gives credence to how the station is programmed right now in my estimation.

It's not the Browns draft coverage that's overblown....that's not what some of us are saying. It's the virtual non-stop Browns talk all year round.

Nobody's saying don't ever talk football...none of us are saying we hate football.

In a market with a major league baseball team and an NBA franchise as well as the Browns, does it make sense to discuss the Browns what seems like 80%-90% of the time? Really????

Many Cleveland sports fans scream for a winner in our town. While winning it all is never a sure thing or easy, the Cavs are far closer to an NBA championship than the Tribe winning the series or the Browns a Super Bowl.

The Cavs are a lot closer than the Indians? The Cavs missed the playoffs and the Indians are in first place. Perhaps you might listen to some sports updates to know that.

I think it's about even with the Indians and The Cavs..Just hoping the Indians can keep up their decent start..Ultimately 92.3 needs to change over to 98.5 to even make me think of trying to get them on the radio here in the Canton area..(I know they are online, but I dont always think of that option)
