Country Gold is gone

What was 1260 before 1993?

Amplifying on K.M.'s answer, 1260 (as KGIL) was a personality MOR station from the 1960s through the 1970s. I believe it went to a Big Bands format in 1979 or 1980. Despite its signal limitations and its San Fernando Valley-focused news, it was considered a legitimate alternative to KFI and KMPC, though never really a threat in the ratings.

Dick Whitttington, Wink Martindale, Chuck Southcott, Bill Taylor, Thomas Brown, Scott O'Neil and other L.A. pros came in and out of the station, as did many L.A. news pros on their way to or from or in between gigs on the bigs.

Don Page, the L.A. Times' radio critic, often said in his columns that of the three personality MOR stations, KGIL was the best.

An example of Dick Whittington's warped genius:

It was owned by Buckley Communications as KGIL and had a news/talk format built around the old NBC Talknet service.

Saul acquired it in November 1992, for $2.5 million. Buckley was getting out of the business at the time and co-owned AC KMGX/94.3 was sold a couple of years later, becoming a simulcast of the Orange County 94.3 as KYKF.
The most relevant question is how much could he sell it for today? It is a deteriorating asset. But if he could pull his investment money out, he will have had a 30+ year personal toy for something close to "free".

Yes, I know that is excluding some operational losses and time value money; this is just a high-level thought experiment, not absolute financial calculating.

Is the HD2 still Classical? Streaming not available.

Is the HD3 still Oldies, but without the K -Surf branding? Streaming not available.
HD2 is Classical K-Mozart
HD3 is K-SURF Oldies
HD4 is Smooth Jazz

While listening to the HD4 tonight, the station ID said "KKGO HD4 Los Angeles and 1260 KMZT Beverly Hills". I tuned to the AM station and it is indeed the same as the HD4.

HD3 has always been mono, BTW.

His HD4 stream is really choppy on Live365. That's unfortunate, because I'd like to roll tape and listen to this station in tandem with WSBZ The Seabreeze in Fort Walton Beach.
I listen to the 106.3 stream daily while I work. I normally catch Michael Kaufman's afternoon shift, including the "No Stress Express". Their local ads are overplayed so much that I can recite them in my sleep, like the Emerald Lady Jewelry commercials where the Italian teacher tells the class how to say "Verragio...DeMarco...Supremo". I admit I sometimes leave WSBZ on all night while I sleep, and have woken up to the McCaskill and Company jingle...
OK, I listen too much :giggle: but if I had unlimited funds and travel expenses paid for, I would have gotten a Seabreeze Jazz Festival ticket by now for next April
