Country Rules Trend 2 of Summer

Enough has probably already been said, but here's my two cents anyway. Strictly the thoughts of a listener:

KMPS is not circling any drains. They are around for the long haul. I don't enjoy their station & don't listen but tons of people do. They do one thing REALLY well: quality family-friendly programming that is "nice."

The Wolf is not half as good as Young Country was. Different scenario, but nevertheless YC went bye-bye fairly quickly. I envision The Wolf howling around a bit longer but never making a truly sizeable impact on the Seattle market. They will be a perpetual "also-ran." They aren't doing anything different enough to cause people to leave KMPS, they aren't doing anything "hip" enough to pull on new country listeners and they aren't as "nice." I like them, but I don't think (long term) it's going to do much to this market's infatuation with KMPS.

Morning Shows Specifically: Ichabod is the king of "nice." He will continue to dominate. I don't care much for his show but lots do. Fitz has great energy, personality & enthusiasm. AND he has Mary White. It SHOULD add up to more than it does. But it feels dated. Unfresh. Not hip enough. Perhaps Matt Case will breathe some life into it.

A new PD would be a good thing for KMPS. Becky inherited an already successful station and has maintained it, but hasn't done anything to put her stamp on it from what I can tell.

Talker... Becky has enjoyed a long run with no direct competition, but she's certainly not a slacker. She's guided the morning show through a lot of ups and downs, nursed a long tenured staff of personalities and keeps the energy level consistent.

KMPS is one of the country's great stations. It hasn't gotten to that level by just drifting along. Becky has played it smart and kept her eye on her product instead of reacting to the competition. and NO I don't work for CBS/Infinity. Just think Becky Brenner deserves her props. She's done more than maintain.

If by "guiding the morning show" you mean doing whatever it takes to keep Ichabod happy so he won't go elsewhere, then I'll agree she has done that and nothing more.
