Country

Should Hartford get a second country station to compete with Country 92.5? I think so. Many markets you got CC and CBS Radio competing with country stations. Such as Charlotte, NC, Detroit, MI, and some others. And in those markets the CBS country station does better. But I know CBS can't own another FM in Hartford. Just a thought.

I think the market demographics are too small to support 2 country stations. Country music is far more prevalent in Charlotte and can sustain more than 2 country stations, which you'll find throughout much of the south. As for Detroit, W4 Country was the dominant Country station for years the WYCD comes along and eventually outbilled them until CC changed W4's format. They then brought the country format back just over a year ago but this time called it the Fox. They had a spike which made it look like they could catch 'YCD, but in the most recent ratings have dropped back down to 17th. Even though Detroit is a northern city, it can support IMO 2 country stations, the Hartford Metro however is more cosmopolitan and while there is need for a country station, I don't think 2 would be sustainable.

>Should Hartford get a second country station to compete with Country 92.5?

No. Another station would take audience away from WWYZ and both stations would do poorly. Same thing if someone in New Haven were to go country. There is a limited amount of people in this state who like country, therefore only one country station for Hartford-New Haven is feasible.

Vague Thread -- Please Be More Specific

Country 92.5 is a giant. It has strong numbers in Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, Bridgeport, even Danbury and the Hamptons.

The Nutmeg State is strong on country and 92.5 more than delivers.

How many here in greater Hartford receive either WPKX-FM 97.9 Enfield/Springfield or WCTY-FM 97.7 Norwich? Do either of these country stations have that much influence on Hartford's numbers? (I get a so-so singal of WPKX and virtually nothing of WCTY here in New Britain.)

You might be right. As when Power 104.1 came into town they didn't hurt Hot at all. Hot 93.7 is doing well as for Power they really aren't. Kiss 95.7 might have a part to play in that. As for another country station it might pull 92.5 numbers down a little.

When did Country 92.5 change its logo? I was just on their website which I never go on and I noticed its the interstate logo.
