I think the market demographics are too small to support 2 country stations. Country music is far more prevalent in Charlotte and can sustain more than 2 country stations, which you'll find throughout much of the south. As for Detroit, W4 Country was the dominant Country station for years the WYCD comes along and eventually outbilled them until CC changed W4's format. They then brought the country format back just over a year ago but this time called it the Fox. They had a spike which made it look like they could catch 'YCD, but in the most recent ratings have dropped back down to 17th. Even though Detroit is a northern city, it can support IMO 2 country stations, the Hartford Metro however is more cosmopolitan and while there is need for a country station, I don't think 2 would be sustainable.
