A couple of my ponderings about Romper Room's famous "Magic Mirror" bits:
-- In general, were the names memorized by the host, read off cue cards, or just plain ad-libbed? (I know the shows often got specific name requests from viewers.)
-- Am I correct in assuming that the "Magic Mirror" bit was situated at the end of the show for a very practical reason -- that the list of names could be shortened or lengthened depending on whether the show was running long or short on time? There are a couple of contrasting RR clips on YouTube that would seem to bolster this notion. In one, the host quickly rattles off maybe 5 or 6 names, says a short goodbye, cue credits and music. But in another, a different host drones on in no particular hurry through a ridiculously long list, like 40 or 50 names!
