COWBOYS HIRE SHAM FOR PLAY BY PLAY

A

The Cowboys announced they have hired Brad Sham to continue his role of Play by Play announcer for the Cowboy broadcasts.
Despite what many beleived, the broadcasters previously have been hired and paid by the radio station broadcasting them, now the Cowboys are employing them.

This was a perfect opportunity for the Cowboys to find someone new, younger, hipper, and more in tune with today's NFL.

Oh well.

To me, Brad Sham IS the voice of the cowboys. Anyone else is just a poor imitator (see: Mickey Spagnola,Dale Hanson,ect..)

Okay, let's say I take your post seriously. You should be careful and not confuse the new breed of sports talk talents with play-by-play talent. Very rarely do the two arrive in the same package. Talk show hosts are usually much better suited for doing talk radio, and play-by-play guys are best kept away from talk show hosting.

So with that in mind, WHO exactly do you think is ready to fill Sham's shoes?

HOWEVER...it sure would be nice to have Hansen BACK with Sham. That was THE best radio duo in the NFL...PERIOD!

So, has anyonew heard what Babe Laufenberg's future with Cowboys Radio might be?

I bet I can count the number of Cowboy games I have watched where I have listened to the TV guys one one hand in the last 35 years. I have watched on TV and listened to the radio since the days of Frank Gleiber. The two years Brad was away doing baseball were.......grim.

That job should be Brad's as long as he wants it. For grins give me Hanson back but if you have a jock in there with him give me Charlie Waters, please.

AMEN. The Cowboys and Babe are talking about money right now. One BIG difference reported by Barry Horn; neither Brad or whoever will have a contract now. They will be "weekly" employees. Brad says he doesn't care, but it's unheard of in the big-time world of sports broadcaster's deals.

Clearly, you have never WORKED with him or you might have a different view!

I find it amusing some people would go the lengths to turn the tv audio down just to hear the radio play by play. Now that's loyalty!

Are these people in the same class that never watch TV or listen to Radio today :) NEVER?

Ron Chapman wasn't YOUR mentor, was he?

It may be loyal but it's much harder to do nowadays with being able to sync up the audio with the video.

Oh of course, wasn't he yours too :)

However, what does Ralph have to do with the subject at hand though?

Loyalty to the announcers or the team?

The local radio team used to be more plugged into the team and had better player info than the guys who flew in yesterday. I can't stand Madden and Tom Brookshire used to drive me nuts too.

Still get most of my games off of an antenna so that hasn't been took much of a problem. KLUV did a good job of keeping it close. I guess if your real hardcore you buy one of these. http://delayplayradio.com/

I have an HD TiVo and it's a few seconds behind as it is actually playing off the hard drive.

Re: Do like the Stars do

Just take the audio straight off the network. Cheap, and no need for Sham or any others. Jerry wouldn't go for it, though. He needs a personal cheerleader for the team at the console (hence him picking up the tab for the announcers...buying their loyalty or else.) Besides, the network would be too objective for this biased sports town.

Sure, Sham goes hand-in-hand with the team when you think Cowboys. But his ego is the equivalent of Chapman's. It'd be nice to see him brought down a few notches just for the hell of it.

BUT...this does save from one horrible scenario...Jeff K could be calling the games instead. Or some of the nitwits from The Ticket. Or Max Morgan, or Newy Scruggs. Maybe we're better off with Sham after all. I don't care for him personally, but he's done a pretty decent job with the announcing over the years. Glieber was The Man, however, and 21 years later, he's still sorely missed.

But speaking of, let's hope and pray that Jeff K and company don't try to "cheapen" the games with all sorts of pro-Cowboys yelling and screaming all over the place (much like the stadium announcers do for the Mavs and Stars.) At least allow ONE sport out there to still keep some respectability and some sacred ground. I don't need cheer tracks, laugh tracks, rabble-rousers, crowd reactions, etc to tell me how to think or feel. Just tell me about the damn game, and if you have nothing productive to say in between, SHUT THE #$%^&* UP!!

Absolutely! The Cheap theatrics are ridiculous. Its just a game, not a life changing event.

I would rather have announcers like the late Curt Gowdy, objective and opinionated, and NOT someone who is a constant cheerleader. Do the play by play, describe the actions, and eliminate the cheers. That why they hire the women in the biker shorts.
