Cowboys out of the Ticket?

It comes to wonder why The Cowboys chose KTCK/Cumulus instead of ESPN/Disney. Disney has plenty of cash to offer a straight rights fee or even to do a barter deal. I think that Cowboys decided to go with Cumulus because:

1. They would have to share the station with the other sports franchises in this market.

2. The way the Desperados were handled by the Ticket.

And don't underestimate the importance of this. Because every well written contract usually stipulates that the games are non-preemptible. In other words, the Stars will ALWAYS have the priority on WBAP or the Mavs will always have the priority on ESPN.

And that creates problems in that for at least 2 (Nov-Dec) maybe 3 (Oct-N-D) and hopefully (From Jerry's standpoint) 4 (O-N-D-Jan) you've got the possibility of the broadcasts of what is arguably America's most popular franchise getting bumped for HOCKEY. (or basketball).

Nothing against hockey, but if you're Jerry Jones, if you're the Dallas Cowboys, do you take a back seat to ANYBODY?
 
The reason Jones went with the Ticket was
A. The Ticket has twice as many listeners
B. could partner with FM sister for AM/FM coverage
C. ESPN made half ass atempt at getting them, Ticket went all out.


(BTW: ESPN has bumped the Mavs for Baseball playoffs, so the contract can't be that iron clad)

Since baseball play offs generally happen in October, and basketball season starts in VERY late October/Early november, I'd be interested in knowing more details on this.

IOW, were they pre season games? And I'd love to know what ESPN's affiliate agreement commits them to. For example, I've always been told that ESPN stations HAVE to clear Mike and Mike in the morning. Are they also obligated to clear XX number of ESPN broadcasts like MLB playoffs?

Like I said, it's all about how the contracts are written.

And WBAP has bumped the Stars (to ESPN, when they were co-owned) for election coverage.
 
Seeing that Jones has been on the defensive about his team recently(i.e. his D&M conversation this week) i'm curious how this will play if he does decide to opt-out of KTCK at the end of the season...
 
I still believe that Cumulus will do whatever it takes to retain the Cowboys. The only other station group that could compete is CBS(KLLI). From what I remember, CBS likes to do straight rights fees, and right now the Cowboys seem to like the idea of owning their broadcast rights. In the long run, its a better deal because you can offer more value to your corporate sponsors. The Stars, Rangers, and Mavericks sell radio, TV, and in stadium signage as package deals to the sponsors. I know this for a fact because I have worked for all three of those franchises. That's how its done. With that being said, don't think that Dan Bennett would give up the flagship status to another group. I really think that Cumulus would have The Ticket be the AM flagship, KPLX becomes the FM flagship and the other stations and maybe KLIF/KKLF/KPLX 99.5HD2fills in the gaps and become affliates.

They are not an affiliate; they are an O and O, Owned and operated. They have to do whatever Bristol (Scott Masteller) says. They mandate that M&M and Collin are carried, along with the replay crap after the rarely on the air R.J. and the Addict program, not to mention baseball playoffs and NCAA tourney. They care nothing about the local fan, only about the number of markets they clear. In some ways this is a good thing, the less control Pete Dits has the better...Too bad that Tom Lee isn't allowed to lead, by all accounts he is really good at his job, but like the last guy, is never allowed to do his job because of the ever overly involved Dits.
 
Dan Bennett and Jeff Catlin should have fixed this problem along time ago! How can you be the flagship for arguably the top sports franchises in the world and put them on two half a$$ed signals. For good God, people in Fort Worth can't get the games on a good day. It is completely silly that it has been three years since the issue has been addressed. Switch them over to 99.5 like you should have done in the beginning and stop trying to make something out of 93.3. :mad:
 
Its just stupidity as usual at the citadel nation...why they still keep the 93.3 frequency is beyond me. Im hoping Jones is smart and gets out of the Ticket contract at the end of the season...

I hope they stay with Cumulus. In the long run its better for the Cowboys.
 
They really need to stay with Cumulus and woek things out. I think putting them on 99.5 would be a great idea with the better signal. If you live in the Sherman Denison area, you can't hear them at night. It would look better if The Cowboys stayed and worked it out.
 
Yeah, they really need to worry about how it looks! It hurt them when they left KRLD, um, No, It hurt them when they left KVIL, um NO, it hurt them when they left KLUV um NO. Jerry will make sure that he makes as much as possible wit the momentum of the new stadium. I bet he gets out and then opens it up to the highest bidder.

We can pick up 104.1 here in Grayson county very well. The problem is they are syncing the over the air signal with 93.3 which doesn't make it here. Because of channel 10 and 12 we can not get the Dallas stations on a dish because they will not sign off on it.(DirectV anyway) I can't say how well it works with Cableone.

Last week watching the game on channel 4 over the air 104.1 was a full 10 seconds ahead of the play. During an earlier game it was almost that far behind. It's maddening if you like to turn the sound down and listen on the radio.
 
you are supposed to link up your dvr and the broadcast, not sure how to do that, but they let you know before every game if you would rather listen to the radio instead of the tv.
 
The key here is off the air as in on an antenna. No DVR or TIVO there (in my house anyway) The only station in sync with that we can't pick up. :mad:
 
If you have Time Warner Cable, the Bone feed is a couple seconds too early, and the Ticket feed is way too late. It's TERRIBLE!!!

Did you ever think to listen to the Bone, and pause your DVR for 2 seconds?

Then, it's matched up for the whole game.

No... the Bone is AHEAD of the tv. It would be 4 seconds behind.
