Jerry wouldn't work a fair deal with CBS, IIRC, and that's why CBS bowed out of the games...and they weren't getting any kind of return for their money...they were losing money badly, and the "pride" in being the Cowboys' flagship wore thin with stockholders. In CBS's current shape, I really don't see them even making a bid, or being able to. In fact, with EVERY radio group doing badly right now, Jerry might not even have a taker if Cumulus drops out. But that could give Jerry what he's always wanted...supreme control over a station that he owns, or perhaps have full ownership of the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network, and have salesmen out peddling affiliate opportunities across the state. With Danny Snyder and the Redskins, we've already seen how a sports station can get bought up and turned into a 24-hour fluffy PR piece for the team, with no objectivity or naysaying, that mostly serves as a source to peddle season tickets. In other words, a 24-hour-a-day football infomercial.
And don't forget that one big reason the Cowboys' broadcasts sounded so good and consistent on KVIL/KLUV is because Ron Chapman was the madman running around in the background, checking the on-air signal constantly, tweaking this and that, and being sort of a self-appointed producer and engineer. He's not on CBS's payroll anymore. Then again, there's a LOT of folks not on the CBS payroll anymore who were when KLUV was the flagship.
Oh, and thanks, Richie Whitt of the Observer, for using my 1975 KRLD/Dallas Cowboys logo from my website without proper credit. He didn't even change the name of the .jpeg file.
