Today in the 5 o'clock hour 105.3 The Fan will announce a new five-year contract extending its exclusive partnership as the official radio home of NASCAR and Texas Motor Speedway through 2013.

One would think it would be soon with the draft this weekend. Last couple of years, part of KTCK's coverage was relayed to the Dallas Cowboys radio network.

The Fan is having draft day coverage in which much of it will be sent to other stations via the Texas State Network. It seems so obvious the fan has the games, what are they waiting for? And does this Nascar deal change things? Seems like the station could have a ton of Cowboy/Nascar conflicts in the years to come.

Do you think that Jones may have went to CBS management and got them to flip 105.3 to sports so he could bring the Cowboys back? Also could Hicks be in on the deal with the Rangers.

Okay so now 105.3 has the Cowboys....
a. Did CBS reacquire the rights...OR
b. Did the Cowboys "barter" the time and will retain the radio rights?

The deal is for 10 seasons starting this fall with the 2009-2010 season. It includes launching an all-Cowboys channel on a HD subchannel.

I can't get over the length...who knows what form local radio will look like when that contract expires at the beginning of 2020. I'm not saying radio will be dead, but that contract will not end for 11 years from now. Think back to 1998 and how much the world has changed. Local radio (and TV) has lost a lot of impact. Everything between move-ins and alternatives like the Internet, iPods, etc. has diluted the impact of the typical station compared to 11 years ago.

My source over there says the Cowboys kept all of the spots for themselves. All CBS gets is the 'prestige' of carrying a 10-6 team that can't make the playoffs.

Heck, wonder over the the KRLD FM ratings thread, and wonder what form they'll take in a year or 2. Because if they're 27th in their demo NOW, what if they don't go up? And CBS is stuck with all this cowboy programming (ranch reports, jerry Wade, etc) and a seriously underperforming station?

This doesn't lock them into having 105.3 be sports for 10 years, they can always carry the games on a music station, but it sure blunts Jerry's exposure if his flagship isn't carrying his press conferences, his interview shows, etc.

On the contrary: They do make the playoffs, only to have Lil' Romeo p*** it away... ;D

I predict they will go 0 - 16 this year. ;) You heard it here first, folks! ;D

Let's take that the other way. What will a winning season and a couple of playoff wins or even (gasp) a Super bowl appearance do for the station? With Dallas being such a town of front runners and bandwagon jumpers does a good Cowboys team= good ratings?

BTW: Good to see Brad and Babe will make the jump. As far as Christy, Mickey, and Larry Brown...........meh. ;)

Word on the street is Bigby or whatever his name is has instructed hosts to NOT talk about Mavs or Rangers. That is why you hear b.s. movie and cartoon talk all day now. Why did they change formats again?

Station full of losers.

Cowboys signed a 10 year deal but the fan wont even be around in 5 years.
