Unfortuneately country music changes... Look at the Countrypolitain work in the 1960's that's now considered "country".

I agree that some of Faith's, Shania, and most of Rascall Flatts work is moving more adult contemporary than country at times, But I find that country music changes with the times and that in 20 years we will be calling today' music "country" .. Just look at Alabama in the 1980s.. then they were just a country pop band.. now stone cold country.. go figure.

Also you talk about xm and sirius.. I've listened and other than a occasional add that most country stations won't add due to pressure from local fans or corporate and XM radio's america (that is a traditional leaning country station basically).. a lot of it sounds so much like the same country stations you slam.

I'm not including the Americana stations as most areas don't have them and those that do are either in Texas or on HD2 in big cities right now (and Sat based radio has the upper hand in not having to worry about not having listeners).

Haggard and Jones aren't played as their music doesn't do well with the demos that listen to the new country music out right now.... But are played on traditional and classic country stations (as well as small town mom and pop country stations).. Would it drive listeners off if their newer music was played on mainstream? I don't know..

Thank you... about time we had someone other than me post something insightful and factual on this thread.

You must be blinder than a bat. If you can't figure it out, I suggest yout get a dictionary and do a little research.

damn didn't know that post could stir up a hornet's nest....

And I may have worded it wrong but reread it and my exceptions were the Americana stations, and XM America which does play music to traditional tastes... and will play somethings not heard on most country stations.

Highway 16 and channel 60 are just like any clear channel, cox, cumulus or other corporate broadcaster.

But Mom and pop country stations still love playing Jones and Haggard if they knew it came out and get a copy. I know of one right now that plays them. But usually mom and pop stations are in the country and has to serve many generations of country fans as well as don't have to worry about ratings....

Xm and sirius don't have to worry about revenue either just yet.. that's why you hear some of the more traditional sounds and If it shows good, I'll expect it on HD radio soon.

But it has been predicted that when revenue doesn't pay the bills anymore, look for commercials.. sat radio is taking from the cable tv playbook.

only commercials on sat radio are the cc stations which are BLOCKED on my radios. yes hwy 16 and sirius 60 new country are like traditional testicle radio except..THEY PLAY THE DIXIE CHICKS!
and other some other former core artists that fm want touch. those are 2 stations sirius has 5 country stations. 1 of them is the latest chart songs.
xm has 6..1 of them is for the latest hits plus the dixie chicks. what do we have here in baton rouge? 2 hits and 1 classic country which only plays about 100 songs over and over again. i'll stick with xm and sirius.

I don't think it's your post stirring up a hornet's nest... I think the smashedcd id speaks for itself... and I'll leave it at that.

Chicks

John77: you've drifted away from the Dixie Chicks topic.

I think we can all pretty clearly say you are conservative, you have a vendetta against the Dixie Chicks for their comments on Bush and are using little "factoids" to avoid admitting you're just pissed because they dissed your President.

forget it. they will never admit they're a flaming right winger who's just got a hard-on for somebody who disagrees with poor ole W. and has nothing to do with cd sales or concert tickets or whatever. hey it's ok if that's why they hate 'em. just be man enuff to come out and admit it and not hide behind a bunch of statistics that have nothing to do with it

I'm angry at what they did to their Country fans and how they ordered their fans what they could and could not to listen to. You want more??? How about the "F U T K" t-shirts then? I'm sorry, it is NOT about politics or Bush, it is THEIR childish attitude that I don't like.

Most of America was angered about what they did to our President, no doubt, but that IS NOT the point of my posts here... you are MISSING THE POINT COMPLETELY if you think so.

You actually got it with this part of your post... Honestly, I HATE politics... so I just don't involve myself in them or discuss them. Most people think you have to be a right-winger to not like the chicks, and that isn't at all true.

The Dixie Chicks received 5 nominees for a Grammy announced today.

Love it!

The album is astonishing. I listened to it again today. 5 nominations.
The Chicks Rock.
Who was that guy they insulted? Didn't he use to be important?

Anyone that didn't see the 5 Grammy nominations coming, obviously doesn't know anything about how the Grammy awards work and who votes for them... they've won many of them before, the only shock would have been if they had only received only 2 or 3 noms... and knowing who controls the panel we all knew that wasn't happening.

Anyways, enough of that stupid Grammy nonsense, it's appearing this is going to be their last album together.

http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/dixie_chicks_breaking_up/

-------
The controversial country superstars have secretly decided to split up after the Grammy Awards - because Emily Robison and Martie Maguire no longer want to share the nest with outspoken Natalie Maines, say sources.

“The Chicks are tired and wrung out,” said a group insider. “They feel they’ve come to the end, and they want a break from each other to spend more time with their families.”

The three women, who have seven children among them, are at odds over Natalie’s blunt political ramblings. And while sources say sisters Emily and Martie share many of Natalie’s anti-George W. Bush views, they feel her public rants have taken the focus off their music.

“They’ve supported many of her political beliefs, even though it’s put their lives and the lives of their families in jeopardy,” said the insider.
