COX

I'm seeing Q103.1 and 106.9 billboards everywhere! Plus Q hired a morning guy cohost and overnight host. I thought they were for sale?

The bids have been submitted for Cox Media Group’s high-profile sale of 26 radio stations in six markets. A Cox spokesman declined to reveal how many bids were submitted although a small handful is believed to be on the company’s desk. “We still are targeting sometime this quarter to complete the sale of all locations,” he says.

Your station has just been sold to Lynn Martin.

They would now that he has WBKI-TV there... 106.9 is like 96.9... 107.7 is like B92... hmmm

Would you rather have Lynn Martin or Cumulus owning the cluster?

that's like asking if we'd rather have bamboo shoots stuck under the fingernails of our left hand or right hand.

I would be greatly pleased if one of the new owners of the Cox stations tried R&B Oldies (with an ultra-deep playlist and specialty shows) when their sales are complete.

Too many Urban ACs hedge their bets on their golds when there is SO much excellent, audience-pleasing music being ignored.

Remember the goal is sell all of the stations as a whole and not split them up.... of course that is the goal, if it is reached or not we'll find out .... probably by the end of the year.

You mean the Summit Media of Las Vegas or the Summit Media of West Virginia?

I heard that Saga, Emmis and Connoisseur have made a play for several of the markets.

Emmis wants to pick up:
WQNU Country 103.1 Louisville
WRKA Classic Country 103.9 Louisville
WVEZ AC 106.9 Louisville
WSFR Classic Hits 107.7 Louisville

Saga kicked the tires at:
WKHK Country 95.3 Richmond
WKLR Classic Rock 96.5 Richmond
WHTI CHR/Mainstream 100.9 Richmond
WURV Modern AC 103.7 Richmond
WHZT Rhythmic CHR 98.1 Greenville
WJMZ Urban AC 107.3 Greenville
Translators at 97.7 / 98.5

Connoisseur is looking to round out it's New York area buy with
WPLR Rock 99.1 New Haven
WYBC Urban AC 94.3 New Haven
WFOX Classic Rock 95.9 Bridgeport
WEZN AC 99.1 Bridgeport

Neither. This particular Summit Media is owned by David DuBose (GM of Cox-Birmingham and former owner of the urban properties in that cluster), Carl Palmer (formerly of HBC) and several other managers at other Cox properties.

Rumor is that Summit outbid the other potential suitors but still may not have offered what Cox wanted.

First matter of business rebrand light 106.9 to my 106.9 then at least the station will make sense and not the mess that it is now. They have a good morning show they need to build on that.

They will make changes for sure at light 106.9 there numbers tell the tale. It is like when you buy a house you want to make it your own so you do this or that. Same with a radio station if the changes are warranted. And 106.9 needs some help!!!

I say go head to head with the max. The others who knows...

Are the 6+ numbers we see are reflected in billing? If you get most of the "AC" buys in the market that could be quite a pile of money. They are ahead of WMXA which would love to see 106.9 go away.

Speaking as one who knows little about programming, I have watched more than 1 heritage Soft AC/Light station start venturing in a more Hot AC direction with the end result being a format change after a few years of experimenting. While I'm not a 106.9 listener, if it sounds more current and less "lite" than it did a couple of years ago and the ratings are falling concurrent with that change, it sounds to me like history is likely repeating itself. What's that they say about insanity and trying a failed policy over and over while expecting a different result?
