Critique Southside Steve at Manuel's

I have to say that was a classy thing for the Cumulus folks to show up. They deserve a lot of credit for coming.

Knowing the two backgrounds of their GM and Ops Mgr, they are in this to win, having come from radio stations in South Florida where there was actually competition and a spirit to dominate!

I am not the biggest fan of "corporate" radio, but these two seem to have the right idea and resources to make things happen, and have the attention of a lot of folks right now.
 
First time meeting SSS, Rob Roberts, and Gary Lewis... very nice guys. I forgot to listen to the Regular Guys this morning to see if Calandro's bit made it to air.

Larry teased playing some audio from the meetup in the early 9am hour, but then it never got played... I guess it'll wait til tomorrow?

Gary Lewis explained that the trad. 99X events (BDO, Chinese New Year, Sinners Ball, Unplugged in the Park etc) are so established and since 99X.com is a brand that Cumulus is continuing, there is no reason to stop them. In addition, 99X.com will be something that will continue. Lewis feels that the Internet is the way to go with this format.

On a side note, I give Gary and Rob Roberts mad props for showing up to our little soirée. They both suffered a few slings and arrows from the collected masses (including from yours truly). Of course, Roberts did provide tequila shots to ease the pain of having 99X go off the air. I think Roberts said he would buy a shot for every former and 99X listener at any time; any place. All you have to do is say this phrase, "I'm ____________and I am/was/will always will be 99X."

No one mentioned that Mike Wheeler was there too.

do u believe them or do u think they were just bs-ing and 99x will just disapear  1 nite once people like me stop complaining ? they didnt care when they had thousands of listners so whats to make them care now

Why didn't you show up? You could have asked them yourself. For now, we have to take them at their word. I believe they want 99x.com to succeed. I don't think Lewis and Roberts would have spent so much time and money starting it up if they didn't want it to be a winner for them.

As for those who said that we were swayed by the free shots. That is entirely untrue. I was swayed by the back rub and free car wash they gave me. Next time Rob, a little more wax on the left front panel.

The only thing I've heard him tease was Steve at a "gay wedding expo." Unless he's saying our group looked like a gay wedding expo, I haven't heard that we're on the schedule.
