Crush 105.7 About To Be Extinguished...

Or maybe one of the station will be putting ESPN in Albany. 1050 in NYC already started yesterday as ESPN Deportes, but maybe I will predicting an English ESPN Radio on one of the stations or maybe one of the Ernie Anastos stations that he owned. We need room for another FM sports station.

We already do have ESPN Radio on 104.5FM here in Albany. No need for it to be on 2 channels.

Maybe you mean CBS Sports Radio in Albany? I just hope they don't kill Magic 590 for CBS Sports... 1160 or 900 could be killed, but please not 590...

So does anyone have any thoughts on the new "Pop Crush?" It sounds like it might be a "Blink" clone to me. And what's this with Entertainment news every half hour?

Anyone think this thing will have jocks?

It may be the dumbest name for a station in Albany's history (even if it is a tie-in with the PopCrush website); we don't need another CHR; and I think stunting is much more fun than fakery. (Registering fake domain names is one thing; misleading billboards IMHO goes a bit far.)

It's a total stunt. No doubt about it. It will be some sort of Rock format.
I don't understand what you mean by this, are you saying it isn't going to be Popcrush for very long and the plan is to change it to a Rock format soon?

That is what I am saying, yes. You understand perfectly.

If that's the case, will it be AAA, Classic Rock, Alternative, or something else? (Maybe 103.9 moving to 105.7 and Hot on 103.9 as a long shot :p After all, stranger things have happened... I wasn't expecting ESPN on 98.7 in NYC for instance) I'd like a nice alternative or AAA station in Albany, especially with 103.1 WHRL and the Edge long gone... PYX is rather unlistenable and I'd love to have a better classic rock station too :)

Sorry orbiter1, but I don't think this is a stunt. I'm convinced it's the real thing.

@Danikaiser84: Although Channel and Edge are gone, don't you still have EQX as an Alternative station? I'm asking rather than telling because I'm not sure how the reception is of that station in Albany, or even if EQX markets itself as an Albany station.

Now with three CHRs in Albany, how much longer will this last? I'd bet WKKF would be the casualty here, probably won't be around for more than 6 months or so ;)

I'll check back in with you in early October.

According to Arbitron, they are still CHR. They haven't changed their format classification to Rhythmic CHR officially. They get a chance to update that before every survey starts.

My guess, fueled by nothing but my own imagination:

Pop Crush hangs around until November, then is replaced by Santa 105.7. After the holidays:
  • Hot 99.1 moves to 105.7.
  • WTMM switches to one of the new sports radio networks (CBS or NBC) but retains their local shows and various PBP contracts.
  • 99.1 turns into a full-time ESPN Radio repeater, possibly picking up overflow PBP from WTMM (Albany Devils, etc.).

...After the holidays... WTMM switches to one of the new sports radio networks (CBS or NBC) but retains their local shows and various PBP contracts...

I can see that, as they wouldn't be the first to dump ESPN for CBS or NBC - but does that mean they have to keep Bruce Jacobs? :p

I found a link to this aircheck of the re-launch of "Pop Crush" at 105.7. Thanks to the Format Change Archive for this one. This was on the same day as the re-launch of ESPN Deportes at 1050 AM as heard a few hours prior to this. I was going to record the last few minutes of "Crush-FM" a few weeks ago and I can't reached it, because of the WKZE's translator which is still running at 105.9 is a total waste. So I decided to use a stream and I missed it so badly. So we have it here. Let's take a listen.
