Crusin' Al - KAAM's Saturday Night DJ

There's a bunch of complaining and speculating on here about KAAM's Saturday evening DJ, Crusin' Al.

There's no question this guy is an amateur who is fond of radio as he preceives it was in the "old days" AND 50s and 60s music. The problem is that he has no God given talent and apparently doesn't want to work to learn the craft.

If it is true that Don Crawford doesn't pay his help more than $10 an hour, it doesn't matter the station's .7 share. The spot time charges are rolling in a fortune for him and his family.

And frankly, the weekday DJs along with veteran newsman Dave Mitchell, do a good job and the programming is tight. Crusin Al' might find it worthwhile to understudy those fellows. At least he'd learn to stop talking over the music.

I listen to KAAM a great deal along with KRLD's Ernie and Jay and Laura, Dennis, etc. on KSKY. And I really enjoy the fellows on the sport's station known as the Ticket...whatever its call letters are.

Dennis Praeger????!! ??? OMG. Nice pipes, but so wacked.

If Crusin' Al did want to learn the craft of broadcasting and become semicompetent, who at KAAM would teach him. It is the equivalent of Stevie Wonder teaching Ray Charles interior decorating.

Stevie teaching Ray interior decorating....that's one of the funniest lines of all times! It really is.

If you think that's funny, you ought to hear former KAAM afternoon guy Jack Bishop talk about the time Ray Charles and his buddy George Shearing, a jazz pianist who was blind from birth, lived together in a Chicago high-rise. They took turns moving the furniture around. And each of them neglected to tell the other one...

But back to Bishop, what a guy. Whatever the decade, he knew the music, he loved playing it and it showed. It was a shame to see him leave.

What do you mean was a good guy! I'm still pretty good. Help me get some investors together to do this LMA I've been trying to start and let's do something.I know I can give KAAM a good ole fashion whuppin'!

Bish, tell me in man on the street talk exactly what it is you're trying to raise money for and how much money you need.

How about some details? Just because you feel you can give KAAM an "ole fashion whuppin'" doesn't mean anything. You need more than that if you expect people to put up cash. Try going into a bank and asking for a loan based on the premise that you know you can do something. How much of your own money are you putting into this? And exactly what's your definition of whuppin' KAAM? Beating them in the ratings? Revenue?
