Cumulus Charleston

What changes do you think we will see when Cumulus takes over here in Charleston?
Do you think Richard Todd will stay on in the mornings at WTMA, will Rocky stay on in the afternoons?
Will 96.9 give up on country?

Z93 JAMZ won't be live & local 24/7. A return of Rickey Smiley Morning Show to the Lowcountry? He's on Cumulus Myrtle Beach, Florence, Savannah and Wilmington. As a matter of fact, all Cumulus Urban stations have syndicated mornings.

To my friends that are closer to the She Crab soup than I, expect painful change. Even though they seem to be waking up to...somewhat "How To"...Corp Radio is still Corp Radio. As usual, they have at least one Genius Consultant standing by, ready to scatter things like a monkey in a souvenir shop. Prepare to be visited by a know-it-all...that knows...much-a NOTHING!

I would expect:

95SX goes in a more adult CHR direction, like Cumulus' other CHR stations
95SX adds Billy Bush from 7pm-11pm (may not, since they're already airing Seacrest)...I think the rest of the station's safe
Z93 Jamz gets Ricky Smiley
96.9 The Wolf flips or drops the local morning show, adds CMT Live from 7pm-12am

The ones most immune to changes are probably Magic 107.3 and TMA as they are already running a lot of syndication. Of course, there could be lower positions or part timers cut. Since Cumulus is taking so many new stations, and larger markets on, though, they may change some of their strategies. They've also done some hiring on the corporate programming level.

Wonder what would happen to the local Breakfast Club Morning Show on z93 Jamz if Ricky Smiley was to replace them. Could The Breakfast Club land on another station in Charleston? Maybe Apex's Star 99.7

Depends - how have their numbers been? They are heritage in a market that treasures heritage. I would say moving them to afternoons would be a better move, but let's face it - when has Cumulus (or Citadel, for that matter) done things that made sense to the programming mind?

Cumulus barely has local talent on smaller market stations. My guess would be Smiley on Z93 in the mornings since Apex canned 92.5 THE BOX. He's been to Charleston doing his comedy show twice this year. I believe Z93 is currently live 24/7 but i'd bet automation would take over from midnight - 6am. Also, is 95SX still loca lin the mornings? Wouldn't be suprise if The Bert Show fom Cumulus Q100 here in ATL landed there.

95sx has Two Girls And A Guy for their morning show. Wonder what will happen to them. Cumulus might go all music in mornings as thats what their CHR just up 17 in Myrtle Beach does (i 100)

i100 is really a startup. I think 2G&AG are safe, they do have some local morning shows. Mid-days are already syndicated on SX.

That would be good if 2 Girls and a Guy stays on 95sx for mornings. As I just remembered up in Wilmington, NC Cumulus has a local morning show on WGNI which is AC.

It's official. Done deal. Websites now say "Cumulus Media" at the bottom. Would not be a surprise to see 96.9 blown up soon. If not WTMA on FM, I can see classic hits or maybe their 80s/90s "Journey" format.

Since TMA is really good with talk radio I would like to see them on 96.9 since no one else in the area has that kind of signal for talk. TMA is one of the few AM's that keeps a good amount of listeners ( no offense to other AM's) and with a strong FM signal they might be able to hold a bigger audience than any other talk station in the low country/lower midlands area.

Been streaming 95SX for the last 20 minutes or so. Did they ditch Dave Kampel as their voiceover guy? Haven't heard him on any of the sweepers. I don't think he's heard on any Cumulus CHRs, so I don't know if the takeover is correlated to the imaging change. I wonder if Seacrest will come off SX, possibly in favor of Billy Bush at night...hopefully they'd move Mr. Phil to middays if that were the case.

I really hope Cumulus doesn't screw this up. 95SX is one of the CHRs I grew up with, and over the last 18 months, programming has finally got it sounding great again. So far, no noticeable changes to the music, which is certainly a good thing.

A lot of Citadel CHR's run Seacrest, so it will be interesting to watch.

Cumulus has put a WMAL simulcast on FM105.9 in Washington, DC. I can't help but predict the same will happen with WTMA on FM, although I agree with moving Magic to 96.9 and sticking TMA on 107.3.
