Cumulus CHR a no show

KLIF-FM (call letters after format chage) had a 0.9 in December. KDBN-FM (obsolete call letters) is listed as the no show.

Boy!! that station is burnning up the air waves isn't it?
To be fair, hasn't it only been on 3 months? IIRC the flip was labor-dayish, wasn't it? So aren't we talking Sep-Oct-Nov and the first 2 weeks of December in those ratings?

So yes, while KISS is #2 with a 6.0 and 1.6 million cume, and KLIF_FM only has a .9, they've also already reached almost half a million in cume. If they can extend their TSL, and continue to make inroads into KISS's cume advantage, I think that station at least has a legitimate chance to survive.

And as for "burning up the airwaves" look at who's in their ratings neighborhood- they're only a few places behind ESPN and The Fan. They're about to beat their sister station who's been doing talk for years. They're less than half a point behind WRR, who's been classical for decades. And they're outright BEATING KKDA-AM, and outcuming KRLD-AM.

If they're not burning up the airwaves, than arguably neither are a ton of other stations. But I'll tell you this- I've got a couple teenagers in my house who LOVE LOVE LOVE having an alternative to KISS. It's goingto be interesting to see real competition in teh CHR world...

It probably also doesn't hurt that KLIF-FM takes enough away from KHKS that KLIF-FM clustermate KPLX now passes it 25-54 according to the 25-54 thread. KHKS previously had been #1 and KPLX #2.

Yep.

A few months back I pointed that out- that this looks like a "strategic" move rather than a tactical one. Short term, i93 has no chance of upsetting the Kidd-KISS applecart. They'll be the dominant CHR as long as they want to be. But if i93 can take enough away from KISS to help KPLX stay ahead of them 25-54, I'm guessing the Cumulus bosses will be happy.

Especially since the Zone/Merge/Bone never seemed to do much there, and didn't help KPLX's numbers...

Everyone seems to forget CBS's forgettable stab at a piece of the CHR pie...Wild 100. A regular no-show in the ratings as well during its long, drawn-out, dramatic, multi-year-long death.

Nice "strategery" for Cumulus, if Chip's explanation is right.

Bone popped its first book out of the gate as a classic rocker. Usually CHRs make an early splash, too, if it's gonna happen.
Cumulus should just donate KLIF AM and FM to a college or university and get the tax write-off.

Donate KLIF?
Tax write-offs are only valuable for offsetting gains.
Cumulus is losing money. A lot of money.

i93 should switch to a true party station. similar to wild 94.9 in san francisco.

I can tell that won't happen. Isn't this station owned by CBS?

As for whether it (the "Wild" slogan) can be bought back to Dallas, it can because CBS no longer has any claim to the moniker in this market. In other words, unless other broadcasters (like Clear Channel) say something, any station is free to use it.

No, KYLD San Francisco is owned by Clear Channel. CBS' top 40 in San Francisco is KMVQ-FM 99.7 "Movin' 99.7." Just like Clear Channel "Kiss" clones are everywhere, Clear Channel has a "Wild" clone locally on KHKS' HD2.
