Cumulus cuts hit the Trail

I wonder when any lineup/schedule changes will be made or leaked out..

Plain was OK, he had a weird way of speaking but I enjoyed his stories for the most part. Cornetta was annoying..he produced the York show right?

The word is that Art Spencer is gone, one of the sales managers, and much of the new digital news division.

You're right, Art's page is off the Lite Rock site, as are the pages for Bob Plain, Christina Meyers, and Dee Dequattro on the 630WPRO.com site.

Very sad, I've always enjoyed Art Spencer.

Christina and Dee didn't have pages. They're just web people, they aren't bloggers or anything.

Christina did the news this morning. Hard to believe she's been cut with Josie Guarino and Allison Gaito already gone. News department pretty thin with just Haberman, Cronin, and Klampkin left.

And....what makes this even worse is that...with the possible exception of RIPR....WPRO is the only game in town for morining local radio news in the market. :(

Very unfortunate about Art after 25 years there but not unexpected due to the state of the industry rather than his performance. This will generate some complaints although that never solved anything. As far as Bob Plain he'll bounce back although I do agree about his voice. Good reporter or not the audience's perception begins and ends with what someone sounds like and Plain needs to stick with print and online content. I don't see anything else in this market for Art but he would be great for vo work if that field weren't so crowded. By the way I see Lite's numbers are steadily declining. Wonder where those listeners are going?

Really sad about Art. I enjoyed listening to him when he was morning man/PD at the old 790 WWAZ-AM, "The Classical Station" back in the late 80's when Tele-Media owned them & WWLI. Maybe they'll allow him to do fill-in's like they did with Gary Degraide?

Dee Quatro was Helen 's Whjj Talk Person, Producer. Dee left WHJJ for a better paying position, so, is she gone from her new job at WPRO???

I have to say I am devastated to hear the news about Art being gone. I have listened to him since I was a teenager, even though I live way up in Natick, MA. I called into his show a few times, and one time he announced right on the air, "Natick. Wow, I didn't even realize we got all the way up there, but I'm glad we do." As much as he will be missed, I'm even more curious to know who/what they'll replace him with. I just hope they don't pick up the dreaded Delilah show. Does anyone know what they're doing?

Alsion returned to Columbia for a Master's Degree in journalism.

Heard Josie on NPR?

Is Sharon Smith still around for Sun. mornings?

WMJX?

But see, not everyone in the Providence market GETS WMJX. David Allen Boucher is one of the only local nighttime people left. I think WMAS in Springfield still has someone local at night, but I wonder how long that will last.

So just to provide a bit of nationwide context......in the San Francisco market Jack Swanson ran KGO and KSFO to year after year of HUGE ratings and financial success, and when the ink was barely dry on the deal Cumulus shoved him out the door.

Let's be clear folks, if you're making a list of the top talk programmers in America in the last 25 years Jack Swanson makes everyone's top-5 list.

EVERYONE puts Jack Swanson on the short list for "Best/Most Successful Talk Programmer in America". We clear?

So.....with that as the context.....am I to understand that when it came time to make cuts in the Providence market Cumulus decided that Ron St. Pierre was way too valuable to let go?

Wow.

If ANYTHING were to send a signal to shareholders on Wall Street and Main Street that Cumulus is not even remotely serious about succeeding as a public company, this is it. In it's own microcosmic way, THIS is it.
