Small World story

David Allen Boucher is one of the only local nighttime people left.

Small world story...

1980: After 6 years doing 7-midnight on WPRO, I just HAD to be a PD. HAD to.

So -- after turning down an offer to be ASSISTANT Program Director at WABC, from then-WABC-PD Jay Clark, who'd hired me at WPRO in 1974 -- I instead accepted the PD position at WKBR/Manchester NH.

And, although my arrival @ WKBR was being kept hush-hush there (SO WE THOUGHT), and I was working out my 2-week notice at WPRO -- the request line rang. It was the elegant voice of then-WLKW/Providence announce Dave Boucher...calling, "just to say hello."

So much for THAT secret.

Dave was the first person I ever hired. We put him on middays at WKBR (I, the PD, did afternoons). And I told him "use your middle name."

His next job, when he left WKBR in 1982, was the job he still holds, WMJX.

That's a very interesting story about DAB. Something I never knew before, not even from the exclusive interview. Also, did you know that he also has a nighttime show that he voicetracks for KYMX Mix 96 in Sacremento, CA? I was very surprised to hear about this, since it's such a random city in a random part of the country. It is owned by CBS, which actually does a pretty good job of local programming, and it seems like quite a few CBS-owned AC stations still have someone local at night. They even dropped Delilah for someone local, which I found hard to believe. I also think Bedtime Magic was once simulcasted on sister station WMGQ in New Jersey, not sure if it still is.

Back to the subject of WWLI, I've been listening for the past few nights, and it seems to be jockless. They're not even playing love songs, as it sounds just like it normally does during the day. I HAVE heard of stations doing this before, but I think it's usually temporary. I've noticed that a lot of stations have actually dropped Delilah. I wonder if she's starting to be phased out. Do you know if WWLI is planning to keep it this way?
