Cumulus Houston problems

And the problem IS what??? They shifted the Houston stations to the partnership which means Cumulus itself doesnt count revenue from the Houston or KC stations but the partnership does...SOO Cumulus itself is down 3.8% because of this and thus the partnership gets to show it?? Hell, I'll take a tenth of ~$72.4mil in revenue anyday! I dont see a problem with that!! Wanna try another headline?

So sayeth Rex.

You have made your dissatisfaction with W&J clear in an number of threads. Your point is taken. I've heard others mention it's the only time of the day KIOL has ratings so you thought wrong.

w&j suck!

Yeah, and feel free to re-read my posts or ignore them, but you are not going to stop me from posting by saying "point taken." Not everyone who reads this message board today has read what I've written previously, some people have lives.

The moderator is the person who decides who is posting too much, not Steve of New Orleans on the Houston message board.

The fact is walton & johnson have been absent in the ratings in Houston, first at KLOL, now at KIOL. They are not regarded as a major players in the Houston market, depite their egotistical rantings. Yes, I'm sure Cumulus and select individuals get a chunk of that syndication money where w&j beam their show into places like New Orleans and Biloxi.

Another fact: walton & johnson were the biggest supporters of this war and current President and might as well be script readers for the GOP, Drudge and the Fox "news" channel.
And oh, yeah, despite the impressions that they give, neither walton or johnson ever served one day in the military. That includes the 3 character voices done by steve johnson, of the redneck, the gay guy and the sterotypical black man.

So sayeth Rex.

What's the deal with W&J in Dallas?? I've been seeing rumors about their show being dumped on the Bone.

1. I'm not "Steve of New Orleans" if you check my profile, I live in the Houston metro area.

2. If you would listen to the show, you would know they have been blasting the President for a number of months on a
number of issue ranging from the "war" to immigration.

3. I haven't found where military experience is necessary to be patriotic or supportive of our troops involved in combat.

This is my last reply on this thread just to save the readers of the board from reading meaningless crap.

Cumulus is the problem. W&J don't actually suck. Skimming the Chronicle with tired character voices does.
In Marksville Louisiana, they are on three frequencies at the same time. The area's college radio morning show honestly has better material. Combine that with a horrid playlist, what did they expect.

ESPN on FM sucks almost as bad as the half-arsed attempt they made at an all news format.

It's comical that they even consider their Houston cluster relevant enough to discuss.

THREE?? If you are including 101.3 Lake Charles in that count, I suggest you redo it...MAYBE Eagle 98.1 out of Baton Rouge and 96.7 in Alex but 101.3 barely makes it to DeRidder, much less Marksville..and what playlist? W&J dont play music...AND noone in Marksville cares anyway...at least while they are at the casino anyway ;)

w&j off 93.3 Dallas!

If the Dallas message board rumors are true, w&j are off the Bone effective NOW!!! :D
No sign of them at all on the Bone website.

Hope I'm not proven wrong by celebrating prematurely but...
Good riddance to those vain, GOP/G.W. spin machines!

KIOL could only benefit if w&j were gone.

Cumulus Houston should never have hired w&j and should correct that mistake.

Besides now you've got guys that are notorious, even famous for slamming the stations and parent companies they work for on the air, angry at your company for pulling the plug on their Dallas affiliate! Guess they'll be in a good mood around the coffee pot.

So rejoiceth Rex!

2 affiliates cover Marksville. Both WDGL 98.1 Baton Rouge and KZMZ 96.9.

Speaking of Cumulus Houston...has anyone in Houston ever tried a guy talk format? It seems like something that would fit well on the FM dial. W&J mornings, Monsters of the Midday, Don & Mike, etc.

Word is that is what 1560 KILE is going to be. No one is certain on that, but that is the rumor.

I think 650 was kind of "Guy Talk" when they had Stern on, as well, but as lousy as that signal is, I don't know if that counts.

The problem with Cumulus in Houston is that they don't have a station that I want to listen to! Syndicated sports on a 100000 watt FM. What a waste of a frequency!

ESPN on FM sucks almost as bad as the half-arsed attempt they made at an all news format.

Personally, I liked most of what FM News Channel offered. Pruitt and Shannon were great in the afternoons and the newscast that followed their show was intentionally hilarious. I think if the gang over there had been allowed to do what they did best (being funny while being informative without the suits constantly breathing down their necks) I don't think we'd be having this conversation today. At the time, you had some of the biggest names in Houston radio at 97.5..

But the real issue here isn't what the station did or didn't do. It's who owns them. We all know that the word "Cumulus" is really Latin for "idiots".

I think a humor based news and talk station would've worked fine in Houston. I think if managed properly and given all the latitude it need, it would work well here or anywhere. With some tweaking in certain areas, I'd like to see the format return.

Just my opinion.

I agree.

Love the "Cumulus is latin for idiots" remark. That's funny. Speaking of funny, if the humorous news were the format I might actually listen to FM for the first time in 2 years. Great idea. That might pull me away from the sat radio at times, but who are we kidding? We're only the listeners. Who cares what we would want?

w&j are at war with Cumulus

KIOL should not let w&j on the air to bash their company. All they are good for in a station is causing strife and hard feelings.

w&j are low class, ignorant stooges that are stuck in the past.

I'm glad they are gone from Dallas and I hope the same for Houston and their swamp network.

Emarti: Nice work. You've now proven that you can turn any thread into an anti-W&J rant.

Wilmington, Adguy, Crazyemt: Thank you for actually saying something positive about FM NewsChannel 97.5. There's been a lot of derision on this board about it. It's been almost a year since Cumulus gave Jim, Craig Roberts, Belinda and I (later Shannon, Pruett and Laurie) the boot. I still miss it. Thanks.

I really loved the fm news format. It was the best thing on all day that reached all the way up here in Lufkin. The morning show was the best. And to follow that with Neil, ect. It was great. I just wish all corporate radio companies would really to what the listeners like instead of guessing what we like or having the advertisers choose for us! Any way, I'll shut up now.

Yep, got it on three frequencies. One was weak but it was W&J.
Was driving from Mansura to Alexandria and surfing the stations to try and find out if the State Police had closed the 107 bridge and / or I-49 overpasses due to ice. The exercise was a waste of time anyway.

The "half arsed" comment was not directed at the Houston side. More the Atlanta or the disconnect somewhere therein.
I actually had my work schedule changed to listen to Pruitt and Shannon in the afternoon and have defended everyone else at one point or the other.
