Cumulus is making some changes in Mobile/Pensacola

OK, so is EMF & Cumulus swapping official ownership of 97.5 and 98.3 as well? Cumulus must have made an offer EMF just couldn't refuse for them to accept a move to a weaker signal! Hmmm I love to see the details of that deal. I agree too that the calls should not go back to WABB-FM.

Hey, I'm famous!! (runs) Glad WDLT is switching - love that station and could care less for Krap-Love.

Man this is awesome news! Love WDLT! I guess this means Magic 106 is screwed.

so how is Klove making in this move? if they paid 3.1 for 97.5 then cumulus had to at least give them a million to downgrade to 98.3fm. I guess pensacola area 95.7 will fill the gaps that leaving 97.5 will cause but if you live between the two cities then u out of luck. I take it 98.3 blankets Mobile just fine but 95.7 must have issues across Pensacola.

No way 106.1 and DLT co-exist. Both Joyner, both Urban AC. Hmmmm. Move the WCOA N/T programming from 100.7 to 106.1 (letting them put Rush on and completing the AM simul, since 106.1 doesn't interfere with WNTM.)

So what goes on 100.7? Jack return?

What's in it for EMF to do a swap? Something's missing here.

Probably more money.

This actually makes a lot of sense now that we're able to look back on everything. WABD never had anything more than a parked website (at both the Jack and hits1041.com URLs), WLVM killed their app for studio waiver and noncommercial operation, and when I asked EMF about the massive overlap between WLVM and WKFP, they had no solid answer as to what would happen at 95.7. Now we know why, they're going to need 98.3/95.7 to cover the market.

The only thing I'm still left in the dark about is the COL change for 104.1 to Saraland.

The change of 104.1 from Atmore to Saraland was so it could be licensed to a community in the Mobile market instead of the Pensacola market. Cumulus wanted to buy both of Pamal's stations in Pensacola and couldn't with 104.1 being licensed to Atmore because Arbitron considers Atmore to be in the Pensacola market.

As for the downgrade to 98.3 for EMF, you can bet Cumulus is paying them some compensation. EMF's purchase price is usually per person covered in the main signal contour. Cumulus will almost certainly pay them per potential listener lost, which really isn't a lot. However, they'll probably pay a little higher rate per potential lost listener than what EMF paid Dittman.

Thank you for explaining that. I guess my mind is stuck on state lines and I just figured Atmore was part of the Mobile market, but I guess it IS closer to Pensacola.

One of the "d'oh" moments that made me realize this was in the works for a while was WABD not ever having any real web presence aside from Facebook. Now that I think about it, WCOA doesn't, either. The website is predominantly about the AM still. So maybe there's something to a future 100.7/106.1 swap as well. As much sense as that swap would make, how would they clear both Rush and Huckabee on FM on the same station? They're direct competitors. Rush isn't family so his show would have to be delayed.

WCOA could make the switch to 106.1 and clear the programs the are on the AM (WCOA) Rush, Hannity etc. and not compete with WNTM Mobile. That would also explain the simulcast of Huckabee of 100.7 and FM talk 106.5. That would go away.

That would leave 100.7 open for the new Cumulus/CBS sports in the future, or another shot at classic hits. So far, no one has done a classic hits that works in the market. Journey, Jack, Groove have all failed. If done right, this format will do well.

The current fare on 100.7 is very boring, and I am hearing very few ads. I think listeners are catching on that this is not the same WCOA (AM).

There is no need to take a shot at KLove like that ???

Just not into their type of music, we have 10,000 preacher stations here.

100.7 would do well for adult hits. Bring back the old Q 100. That did very well till they decided to pull the plug. Playing 70s to 90s was a nice touch.

Pensacola could use a wave 102.1 - like station. Don't forget, 107.3 HMN would be a prefect candidate for sports, were in CHR overload here.

The FCC applications appeared at midnight Eastern time 7/10/2012.

EMF is paying 1.6 million for WDLT-FM 98.3 CHICKASAW, AL to be paid monthly for 60 months.

EMF and CUMULUS LICENSING LLC have a straight swap of WLVM 97.5 Mobile for WRQQ 97.1 Belle Meade, Tennessee serving Nashville, TN.

LMA's start Monday July 16, 2012 on all 3 stations. EMF will be programming K-Love on WDLT and WRQQ.

Maybe EMF is picking up another property from Cumulus elsewhere?

Bingo!

EMF is picking up full market signal 97.1 in Nashville TN... (Swap with 97.5 Mobile) .. they are paying some cash to purchase 98.3 in Mobile.

That my friends is the.. "What is really in it for EMF to divest of such a large signal they just purchased"

EMF has actually engineered a great combo here.

98.3 has been a top 3 radio station in mobile for about 20 years now? It covers Mobile and Baldwin and Jackson (MS) counties well and probably puts a better signal into Biloxi than WABB 97.5 did.
Add Navarre's 95.7 into the mix and you've got solid coverage of Pensacola, Fort Walton and Milton, however, 95.7 has never been a top rated station in any market (or sometimes not rated at all). The only areas that have lost coverage are the Blackwater National Forest and a bunch of NW Florida and South Alabama timber and farm land.

Fort Walton and Biloxi have gained better EMF signals than 97.5 was capable of providing.

This is a dream deal for EMF. Basically, for an additional $1.6 million, they get to keep a full power signal on the coast AND get a full power signal in Nashville as well. If I'm not mistaken, its been no real secret that EMF has wanted a K-Love in Nashville for YEARS now.

I never had a problem picking up 97.5 in Biloxi. But I like the fact that CHR is returning to 97.5 (though it won't be the same as it had been). I practically grew up listening to WABB, listening whenever I was in the coverage area.
