Anyone have good words to say about the new leadership at the Cumulus stations in Lexington? Just curious to learn what kind of a management team they have onboard now.

The new GM is from Star in Atlanta he was a sales manager there. Not sure how long ago. But he is a nice guy and seems to have his stuff together.

If you go to work for Cumulus in Lexington...better wear a bullet proof vest.

I hear the GM is pretty sharp, but the OM is a nightmare. Do your homework and ask some ex-employees before you leap! No one deserves to be in that sad situation.

Well, for one thing, there are a number of current employees looking to get out...a cluster that has basically one winning property, and it's an AM. Their main revenue generator (WLXX) continues to struggle (now 7 shares behind WBUL)...the CHR has yet to pop after 5 books...their Active Rock does okay, but will never be a major player...and the sports station has no numbers. Other than that, it would be a great place to work.

The OM would be me, or as earlier referred to "The nightmare". Folks, I normally wouldn't respond to message boards, however I've been watching this one for some time now, both the cluster, and myself have been smacked around on several occasions, so why shouldn't I have the right to respond to unknown individuals who have the luxury of sitting back and making statements, in some cases that are off base, or even untrue.

As far as myself, I expect 100%, but I'm also fair. as to employees, I assume the poster was referring to the current airstaffs "looking to get out" they'll be here for some time because they're pros and want to be here and I'm very proud of them. Thanks for the kinds words about my AM, I program it myself, Hot and Z are both 2 tenths of a share from their direct competitors that were here long before them, the country side surprised us, I'm willing to bet the Bull folks as well. By the way, the sports station did show up this book, a .7, but a beginning, with Clark and the Joe B & Denny Show now in the mix, two proven ratings getters, it will carve out a niche. A "sad situation", I really don't know how to respond to that because it's simply ridiculous. The Market Manager is a sharp guy, in fact a very sharp guy.

This will be my first and last posting...so, let the games begin...I'm sure I ticked off a few people by daring to take up for my stations and myself...I've worked hard to build a reputation of honesty and fairness, please excuse me if I defend it in this case. Mistakes...yes, I've made some in almost 33 years in this business, but I do try to learn from them. Everyone take care and go do great radio!

I'd like to echo the sentiments of the OM who came on board to defend his stations. During my days at Cumulus-Lexington, I had great people who
wanted to get the job done. I had an "engaging" position with the company
and though I was a victim of a budget axe, I still look back on that time in
my career and it was one of the best radio experiences I could
have.

OM, keep on keepin' on!!!!

That's partially correct...Robert & Kevin are co-op's mngrs. Robert will be working on projects for corporate outside the market, in addition to Lexington duties.

And now....

K...OM ~ keep on killing Hacker's stations in Lex, Bonehead. I'm posting this b4 the ratings come out tomorrow KNOWING that Cumulus will continue their decline in Lex even further. Got a comeback for this, Robert? Bet not, Mr. "I'm Not Gonna Post Here Anymore"! Perhaps because you are incapable of doing "good radio", eh?

Sad...not for you, but for radio in Lex, man...

Time to step aside and let some pros take over, pal!

Rob...I notice that you're online now...can you, as someone who was there when the cluster ruled, back me up? You know how they dominated in the day. You were there! What's wrong in your opinion? Do you want to go back there?

what network is the cumulus sports station using? do they have any local shows?

I had folks call me today and tell me I should read comments from a poster than named me specifically. I did, here is my reply. First, I won't resort to childish name calling as ther poster did. Also, the numbers were out yesterday, not today. Ralph's stations? He sold the stations more than 8 yars ago and when I saw Ralph yesterday and told him about the numbers he didn't mention anything about ruining them and believe me if Ralph has something to say, he does. Z exploded, Bear was up nicely and the AM was relatively stable, in fact has exactly double the numbers of it's direct competitor and they have UK & in Lexington! Yes, Hot was off some, so was Kat, in my opinion due to a strong urban book. I've been in this biz 33 years, most at least consider me a pro and I can assure the poster, If I wasn't "capable of doing good radio" I wouldn't have been in this position more than 4 years. It's nice and easy sitting in front of a computer spouting things that could be taken as slander, untrue or just childish. I prefer a man to look me in the eye if he has a problem with me, or at least call me and chat about it, I can respect someone that mans up, has a clue what they're talking about and does it openly instead of a slap in the back of the head and runs away. As to a question from another poster, we don't have a "sports station", 101.5 comes the closest, no network affiliation at this time.

Voice...I wasn't responding to you as much as the former cited and apologize for bringing you into the issue. I was wrong to do that and stand chastized properly. I'm glad your experience there was positive and wish you well. I just feel Cumulus Lex has enjoyed better days and know that more should be expected of a cluster that Ralph had hitting on all cylinders at one time and given the seriously incredible tools they have to offer all their stations there should be higher expectations.

Once more, voicenky, I'm genuinely sorry for the offense.

All I know is that they canned a very good (and very popular) jock on their rock station. Two days later, the numbers came out, and he had won his daypart. Corporate radio (bigger than ours lol) SUCKS!!!!!

Punk...it's a pisser that that happens, but it's all too common in the industry. I've a friend who was blown out at the top of his game at the top of the numbers at night, in a top 10 market. He's glad to be out of the biz now, and that's to everyone's loss. Sucks, huh?

Yeah it sucks....so call me lazy, or unambitious or whatever. I've been at it 12 years and could be working in any of the mid-sized markets 'round here by now, including my hometown of Louisville, if I wanted to chance that kind of result. I'll stay fat and happy in BG thank you.
