Cumulus: No One is Safe?

I think Cumulus is way worse than Clear Channel. CC seems to have more local talent/less syndication (they actually *gasp* can have LIVE people after 7pm!), allow stations to have more local input (not banning certain songs or dictating how the stations are to be programmed exactly down to every song, although they do have some say) and the stations are more "local." Cumulus seems too cheap to voicetrack in some situations.
I haven't read "horror stories" about Clear Channel as much as I have about Cumulus.

I never thought a day would come that I'd say CC looks good...but they seem way better

Oops-- hit a button that may have already posted this, but as far as JohnnyohJohnny's post asking if Jim Ladd could be fired in the Cumulus take over, I imagine he could, though that would be crazy since Jim Ladd and Mark and Brian are ALL KLOS has. I do not know the breakout ratings for Ladd's show, and I am sure his demos skew well beyond age 54, and though it would be crazy for Cumulus to dump him, I would say, he is on the BUBBLE!
If Cumulus does dump him, Ladd is so famous, gets such good guests, like Tom Petty and has such a cult following- he could start his own Internet radio show and get people to maybe pay a small fee to listen to it. Jim, if you are reading this, I would be happy to consult you on how to do your own digital radio show, but I am sure you do not need my help!

Mark and Brian may by the only two who are TOTALLY SAFE! Even the Dickey brothers could not dare tamper with M&B. Without them I cannot imagine that KLOS would have the paltry 2.6 rating that it has. Cumulus ought to come in and beg M&B to re-sign, if they are up, no matter the price, that is if they still want to keep getting up before dawn to do that show.
If M&B do re-sign for big big numbers, you can beat El Cheapo Cumulus will dump everyone else in top and middle management who is making more than three dollars a year. They will probably do that anyway! Though Bob Moore is also iconic and I wonder if the Dickey brothers will tamper with him? Thoughts anyone?
Bob Moore is a LA radio legend and it will be interesting to see what will happen to him. Though I am quite sure someone like Bob Moore has plan B will figured out by now. Would like to hear others thoughts!

Right, that was the assumption since people on this board went a little crazy on me when I jokingly started the thread that KLOS should flip to PANDORA. Do you think the new owner will Flip from Classic Rock?

Where else could they go? I was howled down for saying oldies/classic hits. There aren't enough numbers to support 2 country stations...

Just saying new owners like to remake things in their own image.

No reason to believe they'll flip KLOS, but history shows it's entirely possible.
If the past is any predictor they will at least put the programming under the umbrella of the own programming umbrella.

They may see the wisdom of keeping the KLOS brand, but that doesn't mean they wont get the brilliant idea to
syndicate David Lee Roth in the mornings. Oh wait, that was already tried when CBS had the genius idea of "FREE FM". An entire format designed as a reaction to losing Howard Stern.

For those who dont know when Cumulus bought WSM-FM and WWTN in Nashville, the day that it became official they fired the entire staff of both stations, escorted them out the door by security. Most of them had been there for 20+ years.

Sadly WWTN was the number one station in the market for news talk and sports, Cumulus fired the pd of the station and the ratings went below 5th place and have never recovered. The moral of this story is, that if you pray, pray for all of those poor souls at Citadel, because most of them will be looking for work in a terrible economy!

By the way I watched Cumulus march many of my friends out of the building in Nashville with security that's how I know what Cumulus does!

HA! I see other people using the "WWJD / What Would Jan Do" line!

"WWJD?"

That the question on everybody's mind, but one thing for sure is that:
ONLY JAN KNOWS FOR SURE WHAT WILL JAN DO.

I've been dying to say something throughout this entire thread, but... I choose not to.

Anyway, good day, folks. I just miss the good ol' days of LA radio. Oh well... things change.

If Cumulus erects an 80's & 90's Journey format in LA, I wonder what they'd play? And could it be the thing to make many LA folks happy with radio again since people love to reminisce about the 'good ol' days' of music and radio? I think the Journeys in Atlanta is very well done musically, but the only problem is that the translator signal it's using as a regular radio station signal is too small to compete with WSB-Atlanta. Hopefully Journey Atl. will get to use a stronger signal after all the signal shift flips are done and things begin to "settle into place" signal-wise.

Maybe, Cumulus could launch one of their adult leaning top 40 stations in LA and compete with KBIG! I mean... LA probably doesn't need another rhythmic station! I heard Cumulus also does urban formats, too.....

KABC generated a third less revenue than KLOS last year. It would need to generate triple its current revenue just to make this a break-even deal. How does it help Cumulus to kill off the more successful format?

I was waiting for someone to suggest that Cumulus brings their adult leaning top 40 format to LA, to compete with KBIG. I don't think it will happen, but I guess its a possibility. I think they're better off sticking with what they have, revenue wise, then trying to go after a piece of the CHR pie, but I could be wrong...

I certainly didn't think KAMP would be as strong as a competitor to KIIS without cannibalizing KIIS' ratings, so maybe there is room for another Hot AC/Adult CHR in the market.

I am looking forward to the makeover of kabc it is coming dont know when but they cant do much worse with it. KABC is a sad sad story a wonderful talk station in my opinion not to long ago well a decade but still ???

In 2010, Amp's second year, their billing was exceeded by over 50% by KLOS.

KBIG and KLOS bill about the same amount; going into the hot AC area would only fragment the target and the dollars available.
