Cumulus Now Owns Citadel

I loved Q100 back when they were owned by Susquehana but hardly ever listen since they were taken over by Cumulus. When it comes to CHR, I prefer the CC Kiss stations over the Cumulus CHR's.

During the part of the year when I'm in Ohio I have three CHR's I can listen to: HOT 101 (WHOT Youngstown - Cumulus), KISS 95.9 Youngstown and KISS 96.5 Cleveland. HOT 101 sounds EXACTLY like Q100. I removed my presets for both Q100 when I'm in Atlanta and Hot 101 when I'm in Ohio but have presets for both of the Kiss stations.

Is it just me or is radio actually better in the smaller markets? I miss not hearing AT40 the 70's and AT40 the 80's when I'm in Atlanta but get both from two CC stations when I'm in Ohio.

Have you been to California, New York, Detroit, Texas..... etc? Some nice bigger markets with cutting edge Chr's....

And lets not keep forgetting that WWVA exists in Atlanta!

I guess WWVA should advertise more... I don't know; Perhaps maybe more billboards, or to conserve money, print out a bunch of papers/flyers advertising WWVA and randomly leave them around places, like bus stops,  parking garages, grocery stores, malls...etc. I'm not suggesting littering, but... perhaps, "accidentally dropping" papers with WWVA adverts on both sides of them  in conspicuous places all around town wouldn't hurt anybody.

Maybe the paper could say; "Wild 105.7 / 96.7 Atlanta's Party Station", then have a brief list of the top hits they play written on it, with the hit artist names that would mainly attract certain demographics in the top 5 portion of that list, followed by other top hits and artist names.

EXAMPLE:

"WILD 105.7 / 96.7 Atlanta's Party Station!

All of today's hottest party jams & more!

Lupe Fiasco - The show goes on
Lil Wayne - How to love
Nicki Minaj - Super bass
Chris Brown - Yeah 3x
Pitbull ft Neyo & Nayer - Give me everything
Katy Perry ft Kanye West - ET
Usher ft Pitbull - Dj Got us falling in love
Adele - Scars of love
Britney Spears - I wanna go
Big Sean - Marvin & Chardonnay
Maroon 5 - Moves like Jagger

And more from Drake, David Guetta, Nelly, Gym Class Heroes, Rihanna, LMFAO, Lloyd, Jason Derulo, etc.

EVERYDAY I'M SHUFFLIN'!

Lo mejor en todo tu musica

WiLD 105.7 and 96.7 FM Tune in NOW!

I would refrain from putting anything like "Dev" or "Saxobeat" on the list or else people will be like "what the....!!?". Let those be the hidden goodies & gems they must tune in and discover! I also wouldn't put "Ke$ha" on there... for certain reasons. I also kept it simple so people wouldn't lose interest before at least getting some idea of what they are looking at.

Notice I didn't use any slang on the flyer to turn people off (regardless of age), but at the same time, I geared the list of songs mainly towards the highest percentage of Atlanta demographics, while still including the biggest names & hits, and I dropped the "lo mejor en toda to musica" line to capture the hispanic attention.

Quite simple. Print this up (on BOTH sides of the paper) and make a whole bunch of copies at some cheap copy shop and just conveniently leave all these papers around town and all the areas where WWVA could be heard. Encourage people to pass them out and stuff. Make bumper stickers... anything to advertise the station so it wont seem like people keep forgetting about it.

An intern could even do this.

Whatever it takes to get WWVA tattooed into people's brains! ... Until they get a STRONGER SIGNAL!

I could not have said this any better. (except it's row not road, trust me I know).

I invested over 10 years into ABC Radio and thought I would die working for them. I soon realized when Citadel came my death would probably be sooner rather than later either self inflicted or from a fatal anxiety attack.

What happened on the 2/29/08 helped me finalize my decision to leave on my own. The termination of people who had put their entire career into a morning show, had their name and face plastered all over the city in promotion of one or worked behind the scenes to make things happen was only a sign of things to come. I could not and would not contribute to that, call me John Galt I was not going to be part of the looting that was about to take place.

2012 is another leap year and I wish only the best for everyone on both sides of the merger. I hope that Cumulus can a better job with the ABC group than the last did.

What makes you the think the "good" salespeople or others will want to stay? Especially the ones that made it through the ABC Radio abortion. That's a tough road to hoe each time. Some of the best people in the business of all positions left through the Citadel acquisition because they were good enough to go anywhere, and most are better off now than staying.

And someones comment earlier about "severance," doesn't exist for the common radio employee anymore. Do think Citadel was writing checks to all the people they blew out that gave five, ten, fifteen years of their lives to what they thought was going to be the company they expected to retire with (ABC Radio). So not one extra dollar is going in anyones pockets as they exit 210. Cumulus is far from the type of company people try to get hired at for their reputation as a company people want to work for over other radio companies. Its more of a lack of choices left issue, just saying...

Good luck everyone!

In the 21st century it is not wise to think of you being wed to any job, in any company, in any industry, forever.
Radio is no different than any other industry.
Best to think of yourself as self employed - even if you do have a "job."

Sales will begin moving to Glenridge next week. Studios for K and Y are being built. Programming (those that make it) will move in January. Kicks GM Paul O Malley has been named cluster VP for the entire cluster ... Q, Rock, 99x, KICKS, Y and Journey.

Well said Tom.

Not true if you are a Corporate Executive at any of these companies, a politician, or for the government. They are working for their own best interests and that pension.
So sad how this greed is just "Accepted," while corporate executives like the ones at Citadel and Clear Channel received millions in payouts and bonuses while they drove the companies into bankruptcy making bad decisions. If they didn't do it well enough, they were let go, and given their "severences." Funded by blowing out all the higher paid people dedicated to them at the bottom of the ladder.

A company can actually stay better and more profitable by hiring and keeping the best people in the business available. It seemed to work for ABC Radio, Susquehanna. And hell, maybe even Apple and Google subscribe to that mentality, just don't tell anybody, it's a very tight trade secret these days. It's as if radio is responsible for its own bad image as being washed up and irrelevant as a result.

Is Kicks 101.5 and 99X (or anything Clear Channel) really putting out a better product than they were five to ten years ago? From reading that other thread, I don't see it getting any better, other than maybe some strategic signal swaps and more syndicated shows. Relationships and ratings equals revenue, not someone juggling ten new responsibilities, or being the 4th person or manager this year in a row calling some media buyer and saying that they are their new contact.
