Buffalo Cumulus sells AM to Buddy Shula

So far, nobody on here has predicted what the format will change to June 1 12:01 on WUSW

Think about it. What geographic coverage am I missing now?

You are thinking way too much into this.

There is already a news/talk, there is already a country.

Having a call sign with US right at the border honestly suggests a targeting of both sides of the Niagara River. 1270 looks to be putting a very serviceable signal into Niagara Falls and St. Catherine's even.

Remember, Canadian companies that buy advertising on U.S. radio stations can not deduct that cost as a business expense. That means that such a cost comes directly out of a business' profit... and that makes the cost much higher.

Given the current political climate, I can't see many Canadian businesses looking to buy time on American stations. How realistic is the strategy of getting Canadian advertisers to buy time on an AM station in 2025? It would seem like a very small group to try to reach...

Do we know what the new format is?

Blows my mind that after 11 pages we're almost 9 hours into the new format and nobody has posted what it is here yet😂

I've been trying to find a stream for the station but haven't had any luck (I'm not within their coverage area).

As someone very familiar with this (Larry Norton did the exact same thing with much clunkier tech at the time), I'd tend to agree. This is provided the producer and the on air talent are in lock step. I got screamed at everyday for 4.5 years via Skype to ensure NO ONE listening could tell Larry wasn't in the studio with us. That was the edict from managment.

The gripe I'd have with this in the aggregate is (yet again) the industry eating itself to supplant the grizzled veterans who are literally already out the door.

There ARE talented, eager, qualified people in the Buffalo market under say 45 that could do an incredible job in Baurle's chair, if given the chance.

But what do the suits do?

Stick with what sells. I get it. Sell ads. Make $.

But at some point, there won't be anyone left to run the ads if the suits don't supplant younger production and on-air talent.

How many talented, hard-working producers have come and gone from the local stations? WGR gets a new full time 20 something every 2 years.

Generational displacment may never happen at this point, with AI rising and budgets shrinking.
At this point, management just wants to rake in whatever dollars are currently available to pad their own retirement. They're mostly grizzled veterans themselves who are on their way out the door. Grab those bonuses and let whoever comes next deal with the fallout. There's simply not a lot of younger talent in the pipeline because there's less and less younger audience listening. It's a vicious circle.

WECK simulcast. So far, no website and no stream. Not even a mention on the WECK website.

Just guessing, 2 possibilities. 1-this is the new format or 2 the "real" new format starts Monday.
Kind of a letdown after all the speculation. And why would there be a stream for a 100 percent simulcast of a station that already streams.
The Simulcast is probably temporary. The Premiere Syndicated programming was mentioned as possibly moving to this station. A permanent WECK simulcast makes no sense. Why spend $150,000 to do that? Even Buddy saw WBEN fail with the 107.7 debacle...

A simulcast doesn't make a ton of sense in my book, either, aside from the fact that 1270 appears to have a significantly better signal than 1230 coverage-wise. A head-scratcher for sure. Buddy did say something about geography further upthread...

Perhaps he was hinting about the greater footprint of the 1270 signal. Still, though...

There's no translator connected to 1270, correct?
