Buffalo Cumulus sells AM to Buddy Shula

That might make sense, moving the WECK branding and format to 1270 would allow him to get a translator or two in Niagara County. The big IF is are there any translators available? Then the Premiere shows move to 1230. Either way, it's talk on one signal or the other.
Or he could just keep us guessing, put WECK on both frequencies, and use "The Big IF" as a positioner!

Buddy appears smart, hes got pretty easy access to two good engineers, including the one who did WCJW's translator work. and hes made a format work that wouldnt work in many other places or be nearly as successful. What would make it better? bigger/more signals.

Here's the thing..

A larger footprint means more translators. Right now, 1230 is limited to where it can place translators and that signal is never going to get better.. but it is popular and doing well. By moving WECK to a bigger signal, they can put translators in alot more places they cant now. Look at WCJW, it had been 2.5kw and went to 8kw.... why? To place translators further afield.

I'd wager for the steaming good deal he got on 1270, he's going to move WECK there and put something else on 1230.

what buddy did say a few days ago... was so far none of us had it right as to our guess. He never said or no one else said, moving of WECK.. because we were all guessing what would happen to 1270.. not 1230.

And again, why did his engineer look for help to install a satellite dish?
That sounds pretty solid, SRG, until you realize that instead of paying to move the WECK calls to 1270 and changing 1230 to WUSW, he's now paid for a change on 1270 to WUSW and would then have to pay again to swap the two. There are certainly owners out there that would be foolish enough to do such a thing and never even realize they just threw good money out the window for nothing. Buddy Shula doesn't strike me as wasteful or foolish in any way.

The call letter chance costs are.. well pocket change.... and if he moved WECK calsl to 1270 right away, wed know what he was up to

Ya know, in the midst of all this speculation, did anybody notice that Buddy didn't say they wouldn't go talk? It seems to me that he just said that they wouldn't go news/talk.

Whether anyone has guessed correctly or not, I suspect Buddy is enjoying that so many people are talking about this AM station that nobody has ever even mentioned for years.

Here is something that may be interesting that the cat is out of the bag.WLVL 1340 am in Lockport carries PREMIRE feeds. .Friday I get a call that they are exercising there 90 day right to cancel all programs. This includes Clay & Buck,Hannity, and Jesese Kelly .Told me they have a New Buffalo/Niagara Falls radio station they are going with.On facebook WECK engineer looking for someone to install a satellite dish.I too can exercise my 90 day notice to play this game. I already have a solution. Sure seems more than coincidental

I guess you were right.

I guess you were right.

Yes, Yuenke was finally right about something. His affiliates couldn’t wait to get out of there to do real radio

Yuenke is right about everything except how to run a radio company. Hopefully he can milk the government contract handouts he gets with the cab company

In the meantime, let radio be handled by people who know what they are doing.

He could put Howard Stern on and nobody would hear it .

He is trying to turn WBER into a 5KW that will barely cover Buffalo. Good luck with that.

The engineer of his posted on FB looking for someone to install a satellite dish and WLVL's owner claims WW1/Premiere pulled all the shows for him saying theyve got a new station to carry them in Buffalo

Guess there was something to all of this back on May 21

Station owners don't often announce format plans far in advance. Or at least until they're ready.

That's true. Having said that, lies hurt your credibility. Just saying nothing on a vague “stay tuned” is usually the better strategy.

I’m sure the majority of people who might be bothered by Buddy's approach don't read this board and will never know, though.
