CUMULUS SHUT DOWN IN LOUISVILLE?

That was the speculation this afternoon- that turning them off would reduce their value too much for it to make any sense- unless they were already sold.

Maybe this is what you're getting at, but non-comms don't pay based on cash flow. They pay based on population within the signal contour.

It doesn't even matter if it's a non-comm. Suppose somebody agreed to their asking price last week, and gave Cumulus the reievables.

Lets further suppose they intended to change the format to jazz once they took over.

Under that scenario, how does going dark for a week hurt anything? It doesn't. the day they switch to jazz they lost every listener WLCL had.

Incidentally, the book came out 2 hours before Cumulus turned it off, and it was one of the best books they ever had. A certain high profile morning show was probably embarrassed to the max when they lost to WLCL!

Either way, they got what they really wanted out of the deal. That was to move it further south so they could upgrade 93.9 in Indy. I'm hearing it's about to become a sister to WJIE. Still no FCC filings to speak of.

Dude! That would be a killer move for WJIE and far better for the market than yet another contemporary Christian format.

That would likely prevent EMF from ever becoming a significant player in this market (until they buy Salem or WAY)

Sounds like 93.9 could have made some serious coin if they had wanted to!!!Not my kinda format though.

The really funny thing about all of this is that, once Cumulus took control of the Indianapolis Susquehanna cluster, 93.9 in Indy hasn't been worth a damn either [which makes this Louisville situation even more damning]. There's been so much money spent upgrading that signal for Indianapolis, yet no programming that's amounted to anything. The current I-94 produce barely generates a 1.0 share in some demo's but mostly has no marketable audience. So, on top of all the money Cumulus has lost in Louisville poorly operating the AM/FM combo, they're losing more with all the money that's been pouring into the 93.9 property in Indy - which is still bleeding - that they were making room for.

Everyday I would drive to work listening to 93.9 hoping I would hear local talent...but no.
Even the traffic lady was from out of town. I've heard her in Atlanta. I thought she had moved up here, but after listening to the station I heard her on in Atlanta, I realized she was either fed traffic or was using the TRIMARC web site to feed us traffic reports....

I have found a partial substitute though.... Kool Oldies 1570 has been growing on me. I know it's AM, but Rocky is entertaining in the morning, the variety of the music is wonderful, and THEY HAVE JINGLES! All in all it is a good sounding satellite run station.

Radiotrumpet. Any station in Louisville that subscribes to Metro Networks for traffic gets its reports out of Atlanta now. Indy and St Louis get their reports from Chicago Now. Cleveland, Columbus, Cincy, Toledo and Dayton all get theirs from Detroit. Thats what happened when Metro Networks owned by Westwood one who is owned by CBS radio started downsizing its radio companys they shut down all local metro Offices in favor of 13 Regional Hubs. Heck if i recall i think LA Does Seattle Traffic Nowadays

That was Randi West. She was based out of Kiss in Cincinnati, and she was never on-air in Oklahoma City. You most likely heard her on the former KIZS 92.1 out of Tulsa. She's still with Clear Channel and is now program director of WDCG in Raleigh.

By the way, unless it was a weekend or a holiday when you heard her, all of those breaks you heard were cut within 5 minutes of when you heard them. She was easily one of the best of Clear Channel's cyberjocks and was as close to live as they got. I'm thinking she even did request shows on a few of her stations, and you could still hear your request not long after you requested it, complete with your call being played back.

I reside in Clark Co. Indiana, near Clarksville, and I have been receiving WSEK-FM from Somerset, KY on 93.9 throughout the entire day. It fades out sporadically for approximately 15-20 seconds and then it returns to a steady signal.

I reside in Clark Co. Indiana, near Clarksville, and I have been receiving WSEK-FM from Somerset, KY on 93.9 throughout the entire day. It fades out sporadically for approximately 15-20 seconds and then it returns to a steady signal.

WSEK is a 50kW C2 FM. You'd be surprised what you could here if the FM band wasn't so packed. Thanks to Docket 80-90.
