CUMULUS SHUT DOWN IN LOUISVILLE?

I was just thinking, can you imagine if the station carrying Ripp (U la K) games was off the air? There would be a riot at the station's headquarters. But then Ripp can be heard on ten stations AM and FM so that would never happen. Makes me all the more glad I use Satellite and Internet for my sports coverage. Guess I will do that this fall for IU games as well. If you have a Tivo or DVR you can just pause it and sync it up with the radio feed. Louisville radio is a crying shame compared to what it once was.

While listening to the Reds game on 700 WLW the other day I actually heard a LIVE LOCAL weather bulletin! Not some computer with country music playing in the background. What a concept that is to have live local people at a radio station. WHAS are you listening?

I reside in Clark Co. Indiana, near Clarksville, and I have been receiving WSEK-FM from Somerset, KY on 93.9 throughout the entire day. It fades out sporadically for approximately 15-20 seconds and then it returns to a steady signal.

WSEK is a 50kW C2 FM. You'd be surprised what you could here if the FM band wasn't so packed. Thanks to Docket 80-90.

I often heard WSEK in Shelbyville even when the Cumulus station was on the air.

When 790 WKRD airs the Cards games, they sync up pretty well with Dish Network, much better then WHAS. I wish 790 aired all the Cards games, instead of just the ones that overlap with UK games.

Shoot...I get the chance to go to Padre Island, TX for a few days of R&R, and back home in Louisville, stations start dropping like flies (Smile)!

Anyway, I checked with the DC communications law firm I use, and no Part 74 program suspension notice has been filed with the FCC as of 11:15 am today for either WLCL or WQKC. I expect Cumulus to split the AM and FM instead of packaging them, and selling both to for-profit entities very quickly.

When I get back to The Ville, I'm going to be DX'ing WFAN, WMVP, WSCR and WIBC for my sports until someone gets ESPN Radio back in the Louisville market. With the possible exception of Tony Bruno, I can't stomach the hyper-produced, cutesy, over-the-top noise that is Fox Sports Radio. They seem to program to listeners who have short attention spans! On top of that, I don't like listening to Clear Channel stations. I also hope someone picks up the WW1/CBS syndicated product that WQKC provided.

BTW, has Bisig Communications made any headway in moving the Cincinnati Bell/Reds Radio network to another station?

Cumulus is not meeting the needs of Sellersburg or Jeffersonville having these stations dark.
The FCC needs told what's up.

If that does happen, it would be the exception rather than the rule. It's been a lot of years since a radio station sold 'very quickly' in Louisville.

I wonder if WJIE would put up a simulcast - they used to have a translator on 93.9 to serve downtown Louisville prior to WQKC-FM moving in to town.

If EMF buys it, who knows what might go on it-88.3 WARA (Air1) only puts a signal over a small part of the Louisville area, yet consistently gets full listener support year after year. K-Love is already in the market on 91.5 WJLR and its ever-growing lineup of translators. My guess would be that WLCL goes K-Love, with the Fern Creek and Floyd's Knobs translators getting reassigned to WARA if it can be worked with the FCC. If not, WLCL goes Air1 and WARA becomes K-Love; this gets K-Love on in the East End and Pleasure Ridge Park via the 104.7 translators.

Bob: I believe the rule is more like the following:
If your station goes silent, you have a week to notify the FCC.
If the station does not return to the air within one year after notifying the FCC, you forfeit the license.

Does anyone remember the pirate radio station on 93.9 around 1997? After that is when WJIE started their translator on 93.9. Interesting that WJIE's translator is now listed at 93.9 on Radio-Locator.com.

Radiotrumpet. Any station in Louisville that subscribes to Metro Networks for traffic gets its reports out of Atlanta now. Indy and St Louis get their reports from Chicago Now. Cleveland, Columbus, Cincy, Toledo and Dayton all get theirs from Detroit. Thats what happened when Metro Networks owned by Westwood one who is owned by CBS radio started downsizing its radio companys they shut down all local metro Offices in favor of 13 Regional Hubs. Heck if i recall i think LA Does Seattle Traffic Nowadays

And with the economy, and this mentality, next year it will be 6 Regional Hubs...

Clear Channel is doing the same thing with their news. I have heard talent in Louisville, Lexington, Nashville and Chattanooga. I'm assuming they are doing the same with their traffic reports, also.

Don't forget sports too! Dave Jennings a few weeks ago while on the Terry Meiners show, slipped and signed off as "Tennessee Network Sports", correcting himself, and stating, "that's 5 minutes from now." It must be such fun to work in radio these days.

The other night in Clarksville, IN, around 10:30 pm in my Sebring, I heard WSEK booming in loud and clear from Burnside, KY. I thought the station had flipped formats, until a mention of Lake Cumberland tipped me off.

Wow-- 2 reports now-- must be that good 50,000 watt signal from the mountains.

The Cincinnati Reds are not currently on a radio station in the Louisville area and might not be for the rest of the baseball
season.

The games were on WQKC 1450-AM and WLCL 93.9-FM, which went off the air earlier this week. Both are owned by
Cumulus Media.

Larry Bisig, the local radio rights holder for Reds games, said Thursday that he's not optimistic he'll be able to find another
home so late in the season.

Bisig, chief executive officer of Bisig Impact Group, said he has not been given a reason why Cumulus pulled the plug.
Cumulus has not responded to multiple interview requests from The Courier-Journal.

“Eventually somebody will pick up the phone and call me,” Bisig said. “But I know what's behind the curtain, and somebody is
losing money. Not so much on the Reds — just overall. The Reds are just a casualty of a more significant problem.”

He said he feels bad that baseball fans are losing out, especially with the Reds in playoff contention.

“It's the best baseball they've played since 1990,” he said. “It's crazy. It's ridiculous. It's the biggest year in 20 years, and we're not on the air. It's incredible.”

Some area residents might be able to pick up the broadcasts on Cincinnati's WLW 700-AM.
