Curtis Media Group signing on a new FM this fall...

This has been planned for some time, but Curtis Media Group plans to sign on their new FM in the Raleigh/Durham
radio market soon, probably at 102.5, is their any format not airing now that may be tried?.

If it's 102.5 FM, it'll be more of a move-in than a new FM. They've owned this station, currently WKXU "Country 102" in Louisburg for some time. Per the FCC website, the station will change its city of license to Hillsborough and build a tower in northwestern Durham County.

This will be, on paper anyway, the Orange County seat's first aural service, while Louisburg retains aural service from WYRN 1480 AM, not to mention a Curtis-owned translator on 98.7 that rebroadcasts WBBB 96 Rock.

As for possible formats, it's anyone's guess, and it could become a simulcast of something they already do (La Ley 96.9? WPTF-FM?). They could also pair it with WWNF 102.3 FM, which they're trying to relicense from Goldsboro to closer-in Smithfield.

This from their job classified page:

"The radio station signs on this fall with brand new towers, transmitters and a laser-focused format position revealed after a comprehensive market study conducted by Harker Research. The station will have full market coverage, hands on consultation by one of our industry’s most respected visionaries and be designed from the ground up as PPM friendly. Digital and social media platforms will, of course, be part of the overall marketing plan as will a generous promotion budget. In short, we’ll do this right."

I notice it says "new tower(S)" Could it be a simulcast of 102.3 and 102.5? I'm betting on WPTF-FM.

With the success of "Rush Radio 106.1" i posted awhile back "Will the day come soon when WPTF will go to FM?",
however, on the "Curtis Media Group" website, they are searching for a "Sales Manager", which could mean it will
be a different type of station, i assume WPTF already has a sales head, if not you may be right.

Curtis needs to get a Winston-Salem AM station for their new Sports Network. 1230 and 1320 just ain't going to get to Winston-Salem. A WS station would complete their little network. Hope it's in the works

The FCC database lists both Louisburg and Hillsborough as the city of license, the latter for the construction permit:
http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=22322

The owner is currently listed as "New Century Media Group."

New Century Media Group is one of the "companies" under which CMG has its stations licensed. WPTF is licensed to First State Communications, WQDR-FM , WZTK WBBB are licensed to Carolina Media Group, WYMY to New Age Communications, WQDR-AM to Triangle Broadcast Associates, WKIX to WKIX, LLC; WKIX-AM to WWMY, LLC and so on. Other radio groups such as Clear CHalle and Capitol do the same.

I know one of them is very low poer, so it could be crayer things have happen!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D :D ;) :) :D ;D This will make some people very happy, though, since it's going to be called "Carolina Golden Oldies Network"!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :D :) They are going to run the same programming on both sigs and cover the stopset on the lower power one with it's own spots and own sales market of Lousieburgh/Furkletown. I like the way they are going to do the oldies on thie one, too. it's from the 40's-1982, the best 42 year in the history of this thing we call "music"!!!!!!!! 8) :( ;D 8) :p :-[ :-* :-* :-X
