CW Could be on the Move in Phoenix as Soon as Next Week

The owners have put some money into WB for Fall 2024. They will be leaning into live sports, including WWE NXT, which is WWE's version of Triple A Baseball. NXT is popular and will bring new eyes to WB.
They also signed contracts with NASCAR Xfinity Series and ACC football and basketball games.

*CW. Clearly they're trying to be a bit like FOX back in the early 90s propping the network up acquiring live sports, which is perhaps one of the few things ppl will tune in for in this streaming age.

I think you mean CW. Lol.
To be fair, I think there are many folks, despite it being around for over 17 years, that probably still don't know that it exists, much like Nexstar's other main nat'l TV entity News Nation which some may only know whenever the broadcast nets do reports using footage from affiliates, credit it under "News Nation" rather than call letters, as clearly Nexstar has some sort of edict demanding the nets credit it as that.

There are plenty available. LPTVs and translators are not protected from interference, so if KAZT petitioned to move to a UHF channel that impacted LPTVs and translators, those LPTVs and translators would have to move.

For example, I just tested on channel 25, which was KAZT's pre-transition channel, at 82 kW which would be replication power. Passes with flying colors. K25OM-D, and any other impacted LPTV or translator, would have to move.

As I stated previously,
Actually, there are few, if any UHF frequencies available in Prescott that wouldn't create major issues
atop Mingus Mtn. Locating 82kw on Rf 25 would displace translators atop Mingus Mtn and Mt Eldon,
Flagstaff. Adjacent frequencies being utilized for LPTV or translators would be more difficult to receive.
What "flies" in theory doesn't mean it works in practice. I've installed hundreds of antennas in the region
over the years and have had to deal with some pretty silly engineering and FCC issues. I'd like to see
how 82kw on Rf 25 compares to 3.2kw on Rf 7 in places like Skull Valley, in practice !!!!!!!

cw7az.com and cw7arizona.com were registered on January 9 to "Domains By Proxy, LLC" of Tempe, AZ, the same company that holds the registration for aztv.com . I have a feeling KAZT will be rebranding as CW7 Arizona when The CW moves over.

For all we know, considering how Nexstar treats other markets, they could keep the AZTV & perhaps go with Arizona's Very Own AZTV7.

Nexstar needs to and wants to promote The CW. They need to be able to point people, rather loudly, to the network's new home after two changes in three months.

The only Nexstar-managed stations that won't super-brand with The CW in some way are its heritage outlets like WPIX, KTLA, KRON, possibly WPHL (which has telegraphed in job postings that it may be ready to bring night news in house for the first time in nearly two decades), and possibly WDCW (which has a separate news brand). KUSI might not go whole-hog either, but that's a question for 2026.

Exactly. Also note Channel 15.2 rebranded as CW Arizona for this exact reason. Honestly I think they could rebrand 7.1 as CW7 Arizona and keep the AZTV brand on 7.5. guess we will find out soon.

If they do drop the AZTV brand, it wouldn't be the first time. Remember a few years ago when they rebranded as The New Channel 7 with this logo?

And as I stated previously, none of that is a full-power station's problem. If KAZT wanted to move to 25, for example, then it would be up to the LPTV and translator stations to resolve any issues that arise.

Adjacent frequencies work just fine for translators in plenty of places including throughout Utah; I can't imagine there's anything significantly different about northern Arizona that would make them not work there when they work everywhere else in the US.

All of this is hypothetical of course. Nexstar is already against the ownership cap so far as I know and almost certainly will not exercise an option to buy KAZT barring some significant loosening of the ownership rules, which many argue would require an act of Congress. Separately, I doubt the current ownership wants the expense of rebuilding their Prescott facility when the vast majority of their viewers are watching the Phoenix signal, in the absence of some clear alternate need to do so, like a sale that would implicate the ownership cap/UHF discount issue that brought all this up in the first place.

Somewhat off-topic, but I can tell you exactly what happens "in practice" with VHF stations. Despite people needing proper VHF antennas for reliable VHF reception, the vast majority insist on buying those useless cheap plastic rectangles with noisy amplifiers built in and then moan that they can't get the station(s) they want. Tell them they need something better and they go on the attack about how it can't possibly be the plastic rectangle (the box says so!) and is definitely something the station is doing wrong. The station (among others, see my signature line) fight an endless battle with said viewers about the issue. The stations that can, flee to UHF to make the problems go away; some handful of rural viewers lose the single VHF signal they were able to receive, but most of those viewers were already unhappy having just a single signal to watch and thus already had some subscription service (cable, satellite, streaming) to supplement, so the complaints are almost non-existent by comparison.

AZTV has updated their home page with the new logo and rebrand. They are rebranding as Arizona CW 7. AZTV 7

And now you go on the website & references to AZTV, especially on the top of the homepage, have been removed for Arizona CW7.
Apparently even though the logo reads like Arizona CW7, the CW show pages and the AZTV Facebook page are referring it as CW7 Arizona. Also, the about us page has now been updated to say about Nexstar.

I noticed there are now no job openings on the jobs page. There were several positions listed when I checked a week or two ago, mostly in sales.

Out of curiosity & also just getting to it now since reception of KAZT at times here (Goodyear/Litchfield Park) is spotty, tuned in this morning & watching Arizona Daily Mix & adverts, no promos or site of CW7 Arizona, should start seeing that tomorrow, but did see at the end of the show the Nexstar copyright graphic.

Yeah, I've tuned in for a few commercial breaks the past few nights and I'm surprised to not see any on-air promotion of The CW coming to KAZT. I'm only seen them promote the rebranding and new time for shows already on the KAZT on Facebook, but no promotion for any of The CW shows yet. Although, they have fully transformed website to promote The CW and it's lineup of shows.

Also, KNXV 15.2 dropped the "CW Arizona" bug and replaced it with the previous one - "Antenna TV 15.2 Arizona." I believe they might have also went back to 480i as well.

Here some theories might consider: if Nexstar wants to end the deal with Disney for Philly and Houston newscasts; Disney might buy some Nexstar and sidecar owned ABC affliates along with NewsNation, The Hill, RewindTV and Antenna TV.so Nexstar can legally buy WPIX and KAZT. Tegna might buy the Nexstar and sidecar owned stations since Nexstar already reached the 39 percent cap so KUSI can join CW with KFMB 8.2 will join MyNetworkTV from Fox.

Still showing 15.2 as HD on my TV. Antenna TV programming is all 480i, so you really can't tell difference by looking at it during Antenna TV programming. My guess is they will probably downgrade 15.2 back to 480i over the next few days.
