CW To Be Sold? Nexstar Among The Suitors.

Just a quick comment on Indy...

WHY would WISH 8 settle for being an Indie (Again?) when Nexstar's WXIN 59 has Fox (One of the Big 4). Nexstar could just as easily put The CW on WXIn (Thus creating a CBS/CW duo)

If given the chance to move to WISH to get a better channel position, you KNOW Fox would do it EVEN if they had to BUY the station to do it

That almost happened in 2015 when WTTV picked up CBS from WISH, but WISH got CW at the last minute.

WISH won’t get Fox but I could see them losing the CW to WTTV’ssubchannel and WISH becoming independent. Like I said above that almost happened when WISH became CBS. As for Charlotte WMYT could pick up CW but I guess that would be up to Nexstar. I just don’t know if it’s a sure thing.

The way I can also see is this: I'm going to use Atlanta, Seattle, and Tampa Bay as examples.

Currently, the markets mentioned above currently have CW affiliates owned by Paramount Stations (owned and operated, and parent company of CBS) but their CBS stations is owned by someone else (Atlanta as the flagship of Gray, Seattle owned by Cox, and Tampa Bay owned by Tegna). So there may be that idea that markets that have Nexstar properties already may not do anything to move The CW (or whatever Nexstar plans to use to said network) either as a subchannel or main channel and that market's CW affiliate stays put on whatever station its on currently and continue to be owned by Sinclair/Tegna/Gray/etc. But only time can tell I suppose.
 
Does anyone foresee any Nexstar-owned stations switching to the CW because of this? Nelson, you and I could both be affected; I get WNCN (CBS) and WGHP (Fox), both of which are owned by Nexstar; you have WJZY (Fox).

Also WMYT….but I don’t see WNCN switching from CBS or WGHP or WJZY flipping from Fox. They could create .2 channels though for WGHP and WNCN. I could see WMYT flipping with MyNet possibly going to WCCB. They would probably have to wait out WCCB’s CW contract. Not sure how long it lasts.
 
I mentioned this earlier, but I can see CW going to subchannels for WREG CBS 3 in Memphis and WJKT Fox 16 in Jackson, TN since both are owned by Nexstar. If that happens it would cause chaanges with WLMT CW 30 in Memphis and possibly WNBJ NBC 39 in Jackson as well.

Probably depends on the degree of change Nexstar has planned. If the program focus remains similar, keep the name. If a radical makeover is coming, then rebrand.

I am sure a number of affiliates that changed their call letters to include “CW” won’t be happy about a rebrand. Houston’s CW affiliate, KIAH (now Nexstar owned) is probably glad it ditched the KHCW call some years back. They had previously been burned with KHWB after dropping their original KHTV call.

I guess KIAH can now be considered a network O&O.

That's NewsNation, one word, no space. Which reminds me, if Nexstar does decide to give The CW a new name, then hopefully, it will be a name that will be easy to spell. Not starting with a lowercase letter (as in iHeart) or having a capital letter in the middle (as in NewsNation). A name that everyone will be able to spell right.
