CW To Be Sold? Nexstar Among The Suitors.

"The CW" is a dreadful name. I wonder if a rebrand is in the works. Certainly they have had a lot of time to thinking about it as they were putting this deal together over the last months.
If Nexstar does change the name of the network, then it would put an end to The CW's ridiculous rebranding of the Arrowverse. It is now officially called the CWverse, but no DC fan is calling it that.

Does anyone foresee any Nexstar-owned stations switching to the CW because of this? Nelson, you and I could both be affected; I get WNCN (CBS) and WGHP (Fox), both of which are owned by Nexstar; you have WJZY (Fox).
In Iowa Nextar owned an ABC affiliate and a CW affiliate but then they sold those networks in 2019 to own the NBC affiliate which was owned by Tribune. When Nextar bought WGN (a Tribune Company) they bought WHO from Tribune too and sold the ABC and CW affiliates to Tenga. I wonder now if they will keep WHO since they own NewsNation or if they will sell it to get the CW affiliate back. Or own WHO and CW and Tenga only keeping ABC and selling CW back to Nextar.

Also In the article I seen Nextar is ready to air Unscripted reality shows and syndicated shows.

"Superman & Lois" is not part of the Arrowverse. People think it is because Tyler Hoechlin played Superman on "Supergirl". But when Superman was out of commission this season he didn't have those other superheroes to help. He only had his brother and John Henry and his daughter.

Unless they are an Independent or a My affiliate, highly doubt it. No Big 4 will change

I see folks are falling off the turnip truck again. No way in hell that ANY affiliate changes from CBS or FOX to CW. CW will be added as a subchannel.

This has been covered to death on several Nexstar/CW threads. CW is a cheap extra for Nexstar. It doesn't supplant the core of the company's business, which is operating very profitable Big Four affiliates. They're not going to give up NFL or March Madness or 60 Minutes or network prime time just to carry two hours of CW.

At most, you'll see Nexstar plucking CW affiliations away from competitors where it has an available subchannel or secondary station to use. I would be surprised if Sinclair here in Rochester gets a renewal for CW on WHAM 13.2, for instance, when it could go on Nexstar's WROC 8.2. But there's no possibility, zero, zilch, nada, that Nexstar gives up CBS on 8.1, including the ridiculously lucrative Bills broadcast rights.

I mentioned this earlier, but I can see CW going to subchannels for WREG CBS 3 in Memphis and WJKT Fox 16 in Jackson, TN since both are owned by Nexstar. If that happens it would cause chaanges with WLMT CW 30 in Memphis and possibly WNBJ NBC 39 in Jackson as well.
once the existing contracts are up I could see that happening

"Superman & Lois" is not part of the Arrowverse.
I know that; however, the reason for this has to do with the pandemic, which prevented a crossover with Batwoman from happening. Also, the showrunners decided that it was easier to make it appealing to a broader audience by not tying it to other shows.

I can easily see the CW finally adding sports in 2023. A national MLS Soccer League package and NFL Preseason for starters.
Actually where I live in San Antonio, the CW does air preseason Houston Texan games and Dallas Cowboys games. They also air local high school and college football games, so adding sports is not out of the question.

In San Antonio it’s already been a sub channel of WOAI our NBC affiliate for some time now. It used to be on channel 35 but that was replaced by DABL.

I said that because no one should be calling it the CWverse (not referring to you, but whoever came up with the term) if superhero shows not related to "Arrow" are on the network.

Though it is confusing they used the same actor for the same character in both versions.

If their best programming idea is minor league hockey, they're in deep trouble.

I'm willing to bet no minor league hockey games ever air on the CW.

ummm the MLS signed a 10 year 2.5 BILLION dollar contract with AppleTv for exclusivity
Local broadcasts of MLS matches will no longer continue. Once the current deal kicks in, matches will not air on regional sports networks or other television partners that individual clubs have worked with over the years.

NFL Pre-season games are sold to whoever wants to pay for the rights. So as example the Minnesota Vikings are on FOX in Minneapolis and Mankato and Fargo, CW+ in Rochester, MN and Sioux Falls SD, ABC in Duluth in Omaha. There are a couple games each preseason that are nationally televised

Houston games are on NBC, Dallas games on CW this year

actually Sinclair (owner of WOAI) decided to move it from a station they ran (KMYS 35) to a station they own so that when retrans renewal time came up it was easier to deal with both CW & NBC.

On September 20, 2021, The CW affiliation and its surrounding syndicated schedule moved from KMYS to WOAI-TV's second subchannel, with "CW 35" branding was retained; Sinclair had shifted numerous affiliations from sidecar companies to subchannels on stations directly owned by them throughout 2021

Maybe KUSI should bought out by Fox and Tegna might launch a MNTV subchannel on 8.2, that's my better scenario. Of course Fox might look into buying Circle City Broadcasting even if the Colts is an AFC market. Finally KMAX, WUPA, WTOG, and WPSG should make duopolies and sold to Fox and become MNTV O&Os except in Sacramento to give Fox all 4 major California markets since SAC and SD are secondary markets to the 49ners and Rams(mostly)/Chargers(partially). WBNX should join MNTV too instead of sharing with METV either duopoly with Tegna for WKYC or Nexstar with WJW in the even if Gray keeps WUAB with The CW

In Charlotte, if Nexstar bought the CW, it would mean WMYT would flip to the CW and would likely change its calls to something like WCWT. WCCB or WAXN would likely end up with the MyNetwork TV “affiliation”.
or Fox walks back to WCCB and sell WMYT to Gray creating a duopoly with WBTV providing even more news competition in Charlotte
