D.J. nightmares????

OK< I posted on Providence board and thought would be good one for Boston as well.. How many on air people have "dj nightmares". Those "oh my god" dreams that wake you up. Dream of sitting in studio trying to talk and nothing comes out? or equiptment failures, open mics, etc.....anyone care to share, it is Halloween weekend.........baaa haa haa haa haa......

Ah, yes...... DJ nightmares. I know them well! My first experience was in 1982 at an AM and FM combo in Brockton, MA (WBET/WCAV). I was attending college in the day and I had the evening shift (6 til midnight). I was doing it live on the AM side while the FM side was on autopilot (completely automated Stereo rock). The automation was called "SAM" (Semi Automated Machine). Anytime the "SAM Alarm" (a bright green light on the wall with an audible buzzer) would light, I had to run to the other side of the station to see what was wrong. 99% of the time, it was because of a missed event. The FM was an afterthought and had very few sponsors. Nonetheless it had to be babysat. I HATED that automation with a passion.

Now, back to those nightmares...... I was about two to three weeks into my tour of duty. I was tired as hell. One night, I had a nightmare where I was dreaming about being in the studio doing my shift. Threw a cart for the next tune and ...... nothing! Next, I tried the turntable. It moved but no sound was present. It was dead! The only thing that moved the meters was the on-air mike. SO here I was with an open mike and in a panic. The SAM alarm was blinking. I found myself saying "WBET/1460" in my sleep and woke up in a cold sweat trying to fire a cart from an non-existant cart machine and found myself sitting up in a dark bedroom. It seemed so real. WHEW! This would happen for a few times. Eventually, the nightmares subsided. I wound up working for WBET/WCAV for 9 great years. It was like 'KRP in the flesh. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.

YES - the recurring nightmare: Dead Air! Can't find the next song.

This dream relplaced my recurring "forgetting to wear pants to school" nightmare.

obsessive about Pierce Brosnan, yes. Obsessions & nightmares about ABFR, I don't think so.

c'mon Al, all we had to do was open the window with a speaker pointed north to get more of an audience than we had on 1670 AM!

Just had a bad DJ dream a couple of nights ago. I was doing my show and there was a power failure. Every thing went completely black. It wasn't so much of a nightmare because I wasn't all that troubled by it. I think I was just going to call the stations engineer and then, if I could find my way out, I was going to leave.

My most recent nightmare was that I was back at my old station. That was horribly scary. Yikes.

???

I actually had two nightmares....

During my early days of being the "bored...err...BOARD" operator for red sox baseball...I was always nervous what would I do if I completely LOST the feed? How could I possibly 'get through' if all the lines were busy?

The 2nd fear was that my Friday paycheck would include a short hand-written note from a program director which basically stated that..."due to an economic shortfall"...MY SERVICES WOULD NO LONGER BE NEEDED!

Of course...there was NO EXPLANATION! Just a request to empty out my desk and take everything with me!
