Daft Punk - Get Lucky

Rock = Hot AC since when?

This song reminds me of Kool and the Gang type of records. If it's okay for JT and Bruno Mars to go retro why not Daft Punk...

Since they play Fun, The Lumineers, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran, Phillip Phillipps, Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters And Men, Goo Goo Dolls, etc.

Was that a serious question?

Ed Sheeran and Phillip Phillips are NOT rock. Ed Sheeran is singer-songwriter and Phillip Phillips is straight up pop. Hot AC has played rock bands such as Seether and Bush.

That's pretty off-topic IMO

The poster stated that rock was relevant in the 70s, and implied that it wasn't relevant now - then the poster used Rod Stewart and David Bowie as examples of rock which was popular in the 70s

Whatever genre you want to call it, Rod Stewart and David Bowie aren't any more "rock" than Ed Sheeran and Imagine Dragons - and the bottom line is, there were people who couldn't stand disco in the 70s, and there are people who won't like pseudo-disco in the 2010s - I'm not sure what other point people are trying to make

Precisely why it works: Not a contemporary song on the radio that sounds quite like it.

And it's catchy as hell--earworm-y, even.

I've heard this song on my local CHR stations over the last few weeks and didn't realize it was Daft Punk until today when the DJ announced the artist. I liked a couple of Daft Punk's big hits from the late '90s and early '00s, so it's nice to hear them on CHR radio again.

I really like this song!!!

Exactly! Great move on their part to do this type of fun music for their new album.

I guess I'm in the minority. Not a fan of the Daft Punk single.

Same here - the people who like it are bragging that it sounds like disco ;D

And what's wrong with disco?
There was a disco backlash in the 70's for a reason.

Yeah rock fans who were still relevant back then didn't like it. Especially when their heroes Rod Stewart, David Bowie and especially Led Zepplin started using it. Doesn't mean it wasn't any good it's just the natural cycle of music.

Rock fans are still relevant, man - CHR isn't the only format out there - notice, for example, that Hot AC is leading the market in L. A., and nearly leading the market in Chicago

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you like this song - but trust me, there are going to be plenty of people that dislike it

KBIG and Mix both play a lot of rhythmic product appropriate for their markets, so to say that Hot AC= rock is somewhat untrue. A straight up rock based Hot AC wouldn't work in LA or Chicago and certainly wouldn't be leading the market.

I didn't say Hot AC=rock - I said that rock is still "relevant" when someone posted that it was "irrelevant"

Listeners who choose Hot AC over CHR are doing so because they like to hear Alt/Rock or Pop/Rock in the mix, especially people 18-34 who are choosing to listen to Hot AC

Not a huge Daft Punk fan, but this has now been growing on me. In fact, this is what CHR has been missing, IMO.

I first heard on (believe it or not) Adult Alternative station 91.7 KXT a week before I heard it on KHKS 106.1 Kiss FM and KESS Hot 107.9.

I'd have to say it's the best song on the entire album. I'd really be interested in knowing what single they could use to follow up with.

As far as Pharrell, I enjoyed his late 90's - early 00's production sound the most. But his singing is good, too.

Daft Punk doesn't seem like a singles driven artist to me- so they're probably not too concerned about which, if any, single lands at CHR next. Sirius XM BPM has been playing "Give Life Back to Me" as a follow up though.

"Lose Yourself to Dance" and "Doing It Right", definitely.
