Dagmar rumors...

I hesitate to post this, but a poster over at TVSpy is hinting that Dagmar has been "vacationing" in LA (read: job hunting) and has succeeded in landing a new gig. Here's the post in its entirety (before it goes dark):

She is on "vacation" in LA for her new job. She will be coming back only to announce her new endeavor and say goodbye.

Real or Rumor?

When I saw the title of this thread, my mind immediately went back to something I read on the liveapartmentfire blog just a few days ago. The comment reads, in part:

All the while GCL continues to throw rocks in their boat, on the verge of mounting a cartoon variety campaign, morale has rarely been lower, burning bridges faster than organizations can tell them to piss off, and the biggest rock of all is on her way out the door and no one in management seems to know anything about her impending egress, but its true. [Just try searching her name in their Avid system and see what pops up (even though the damage is already done)].

It's curious though that CBSAtlanta.com was changed recently to remove Dagmar's header pic. To my recollection the header used to include pics of Stephanie Fisher and Bill Gaines in addition to Dagmar prior to Gaines' departure, after which they opted for just Dagmar. Now it's just the station logo. But according to WGCL's site, she was back today for the 4PM hour doing the weather, so who knows...

Hope this is true!!!!

WGCL just got rid of the sports department and outsourced sports to 790 The Zone (discussion on radio board). I suspect WGCL is hurting for $$$$$$$.

WGCL must be one of the biggest albatrosses
in the CBS network. But I know why CBS can't
get rid of it: no one else wants CBS, and even
if they did, they're locked into long-term contracts
(especially WSB and WXIA).

I've said before that NBC took a hit when it lost
WSB, but CBS took an even bigger one losing WAGA.
And there seems no way for CBS to redeem itself
ratings-wise in Atlanta.

Ah, I'm just now seeing your post on this. You got the scoop; giving credit where credit is due...

CBS owns Channel 69 and could put the programming there, but won't. It's possible that CBS would rather have an affiliate with a mediocre local news operation over a station that has none. The CBS O&O station in Detroit has no news operations and CBS owns an all news radio station in that city.

Well, CBS does have an affiliate with no ones in Pennslyvania. Nexstar/Mission's WYOU TV-22 Scranton. They got rid of their news a couple of months ago, because their ratings were so deep in the craper no one could find it.

I could actually see WGCL dropping their news, if they keep having money problems. As for the subject of Dagmar, good, get rid of her. Let's get a REAL meteorologist in the weather office. If you are looking for a meteorologist who is pretty and has real big b00bs, there are plenty out there (and they are better looking than Dagmar.)

I know that CBS bought Channel 69 at the time
of Channel 5's switch to Fox, and I'm sure it would
have had the same problems it has with Channel 62
in Detroit (perhaps the reason 69 airs the CW instead
of CBS). It might be just as well if 46 dropped news
altogether; with only the benefit of what I read on this
site, it doesn't sound good when the sports segment is
canned and the person who apparently is the station's
most popular personality wants out.

I've asked this before, but what is it about Atlanta that
makes it such a hotbed for weathergirls, as opposed to
professional female meteorologists? In the '60s it was
Eleanor Knight; in the early '70s, Linda Faye Carson;
in the late '70s, Gail Janus; now, Dagmar. To my knowledge,
none had any training in meteorology; in fact, I think Dagmar
was an actress in Canada.

Finally, I don't think I'd want to be called Dagmar if I were
her. Most of you don't remember NBC's first late-night show,
"Broadway Open House," but one of the regulars was called
Dagmar (real name, Virginia Ruth Egnor, and she passed away
not long ago). Dagmar was a dumb blonde with big boobs and
was the target of leering remarks by host Jerry Lester. If you are
old enough to remember the show, I wouldn't blame you if you
cringe at the thought of the person giving you the weather having
that name.
