I know that CBS bought Channel 69 at the time
of Channel 5's switch to Fox, and I'm sure it would
have had the same problems it has with Channel 62
in Detroit (perhaps the reason 69 airs the CW instead
of CBS). It might be just as well if 46 dropped news
altogether; with only the benefit of what I read on this
site, it doesn't sound good when the sports segment is
canned and the person who apparently is the station's
most popular personality wants out.
I've asked this before, but what is it about Atlanta that
makes it such a hotbed for weathergirls, as opposed to
professional female meteorologists? In the '60s it was
Eleanor Knight; in the early '70s, Linda Faye Carson;
in the late '70s, Gail Janus; now, Dagmar. To my knowledge,
none had any training in meteorology; in fact, I think Dagmar
was an actress in Canada.
Finally, I don't think I'd want to be called Dagmar if I were
her. Most of you don't remember NBC's first late-night show,
"Broadway Open House," but one of the regulars was called
Dagmar (real name, Virginia Ruth Egnor, and she passed away
not long ago). Dagmar was a dumb blonde with big boobs and
was the target of leering remarks by host Jerry Lester. If you are
old enough to remember the show, I wouldn't blame you if you
cringe at the thought of the person giving you the weather having
that name.
