Dahl out?

Hearing rumors that Dahl and Buzz Kilman are the latest recipients of the CBS Radio axe, perhaps as early as Friday.

Steve Dahl and Buzz Kilman have been left go from CBS radio's WJMK. There last day on the air will be Friday
December 12th.

Wishing won't make it so, but wouldn't it be fun if WGN would balance their safe choice of John Williams in the morning with a bold choice of Steve and Buzz in the afternoon? It has been clear to anyone who has listened that Steve and Buzz have evolved brilliantly and have been at the top of their game.
Lee Abrams and Randy Michaels could make it happen.....

Folks, the PPMs tell the tale, and this tale hurts not only Steve, who A) never has really been a morning guy and B) really doesn't have a format in which he can thrive any more, but C WGN, who took a HUGE hit in the latest PPMs.

All of which suggests that, when the Cubs aren't on, PPM listeners don't have it tuned to either Steve or WGN. This confirms the old saw that WGN's strength is 55+, where advertisers refuse to go.

This, of course, makes one wonder how the coronation of Williams will really work for WGN. Spike picked the perfect time to leave, if you ask me.

This just goes to show you, now is the time for everyone to GETOUT of radio. It sucks, and there is no stability. I am out and I am glad that I am out!! Just wait, it will not get any better.

I have to say I find it amusing that aircheck says he's out of radio and glad of it yet he or she stills reads this board and comments on a regular basis. No poke at you but we are never really out of radio. It gets in our system and like a habit, it is hard to break.

I'm sorry, but in the late 70's through the mid 80's Steve Dahl (and Garry Meier) were the very bleeding edge of local, immediate coolness in Chicago.
Their success from those is not forgotten, especially here in Chicago.
Many of those who followed in their irreverant steps owe much in sophmoric humor.

Now's the time for Steve, Garry and Buzz to be talkng. Put them all on WGN and watch that PPM soar.
I would love to hear "The lady from Tinley Park" on 'GN.

In the end CBS decided they could make more money playing jack music and paying steve than broadcasting Steve. Anybody got a Cah Cah!

Kev sick and Stever fired. What next to the old Loop crew?

Word has it that Garry Meier's wife will be doing AM drive at Jack-FM.

"Randy Michaels can't help Steve Dahl"...... WGN is in trouble. All of Radio in general is in trouble.
Our society today is different; too many media outlets, too many hand held devices to play with
and listen to , too many Computer invloved drones walking around the office, the hallways, the
work place, the streets; Hell even while driving in the car - mindless people are texting each other
all over this Country. In general - people don't listen to radio stations anymore for "Steve & Gary"
type chatter. Even "Imus & Stern " are old farts - has beens; there time is gone; they just don't
know it yet.... The youth of today are mindless ediots, and their parents ( if they have any ) are
too busy chasing a paycheck. "Radio" is not that important to anyone anymore. These guys don't
get it. People like Rush will still have a audience for the hard core news junkies. The days of the
Big Ones aka WLW , WGN , WLS , WSM , WMC , KFI , KGO, ratings are down, money is tight, and
unless you have Rush, Haniety, Levin and so on on your station like WTAM, WJR who put their local
personalities around the Rush & George Nory ( Art Bell ) shows ---- your station is probably feeling
the pinch on dollars also...
Its laughable to hear people talk about "Steve & Gary " that was a million years ago man; just like
all the male & female morning teams ( that constantly laugh at each other - until you want to vomit )
on the FM stations ---- thats "dead zone crap" ; its like listening to Bob & Tom -----its older than
Larry Lujack and the Klunk-letters . "You radio guys; just don't get it "............ stop living in the
past man...... Radio of yesterday is just that. "Yesterday"..... like Jim Morrison ; its dead as we used
to know it.

That was painfully honest and so true. I saw it coming and a lot of radio people much smarter than me had to see it too. Now what?
Now if there is something worth hearing, just call it up on the station podcast.
