I use to get a mix of 3 or 4 stations on 1160, but now the upgraded DFW station is pretty solid after sunset.

Smokin' Oldies 1160 in Dallas

That's amazing because people is some parts of Dallas are still complaining about the signal.

Will have to check the nighttime pattern.

How do you like the format?

Can you hear "The Mighty 1190" -- huge playlist from the '50s to the '90s. Formerly the legendary top 40 KLIF.

I sometimes hear 1190, I guess before they cut power or go directional. WOWO is usually the dominant station here. I do like 1160's format, but I have to wonder how long it will last on the AM dial. Music on AM is about gone, except for spanish and gospel.

smoking oldies 1160 is also tearing it up in Jackson, MS at night. Are you sure they aren't forgetting to lower the power?

I remember hearing 1190 from dallas a few years ago one night when they forgot to lower the power. It was loud. and they were playing oldies. But I thought they had changed the format since I last heard it. Are they back to oldies?

Several years ago, 1190 was KLUV-AM playing oldies.

Until this spring, 1190 was a Fox sports affliate.

Now First Broadcasting runs it as an LMA with Clear Channel.

In the spring, it stunted with All Beatles for several weeks. Then went to the oldies format.

Several times, late at night, I have noticed 1190 on the day pattern. Infrequent but it has happened.

I've heard that too, but only once or twice.

But back to 1160. There's talk on the Dallas board about KMGS staying on their daytime rig (25,000 watts, soon to be 35,000) and I can confirm that it has happened. But to echo the comments of some other posters, they appear to be getting out really well to the east and southeast at night from their nighttime (1000 watt) array, while they're difficult to hear in some parts of the Dallas area. Very strange indeed.

Don't know what 1160s night pattern is since it is new.

If it is east-west, for example, that is why north Dallas and the north suburbs have trouble hearing them.

1190 is east/west primarily -- the old KLIF pattern from the '60s. But the growth of the city has been to the north. So the signal fades quickly only 15 to 20 miles north of Dallas.

Also, I haven't checked how many stations are on that frequency. Interference is a big factor in Dxing of course
