Dallas Pirate on 95.7

So why is this station still on the air? Its been over a week. I thought the FCC pounced on illegal stations quickly.

The FCC enforcement operate mostly on complaints. Has anyone filed a formal complaint with the FCC on this matter. They also could be "building a file". Recording the material broadcast, doing field strength measurements, documenting all of the information from this website, and gathering information of the occupant of that home. When they issue the "cease and desist", they will have everything they need on file in case they choose to carry to investigation further (file charges). That, plus the fact that the local office is fairly understaffed and from time to time indeed does have more important things to do.If the offender was broadcasting indecent language and interfering with a licensed operator, the action would likely be intensified.

Unfortunately Steve, the FCC cares about 1 thing. $$$$$$ They can get WAAAAAAAAAAAY more money from a morning jock on the local shock jock station saying the F word than they ever could outta this guy. Sad but true. I seriously doubt they're "building a case" or anything else of the like. Makes one want to put their own up with actually something worth listening to!!!!!

Well, I checked 95.7 driving home today and the station appears to be off the air (unless they changed frequency). Did FCC finally shut them down, or is this just a temporary reprieve?

I honestly don't know. It'd be nice if they actually shut him down. I've tuned around and not found any place where he would have changed to, so I believe he IS off the air. Just not sure whether its voluntary or not :)

Good Lord Chick. Look at all the controversy you
drummed up. Go back to listening to your scanners,
and I'll buy you a drink at the next meeting. ;)

Definitely back - about the same range as before. I started losing them about Melrose road in Richardson, completely gone by Plano Parkway. Same wierd conspiratorial nonsense as before.

Hi all!

I tried turning these guys in here in Austin. Why? Their frequency interfered with my FM transmitter on my MP3 player! When I filed my complain initially, their website had a list of frequencies where they were broadcasting. Once I turned them in, they must have gotten word of it, and now the list is removed. Lucky for me, I moved from one side of town to the other, and it no longer interferes with my transmitter.

So, if you do file the complaint, make sure you have the frequency listed. Its a rather simple process that can be done over the fcc's website. And yes, I would file. I believe in freedom of speech, but what they are doing is breaking the law.

Have you heard some of their commercials? My husband and I would listen to them after 9-11, and they would try and sell you a "fallout" kit that included a plastic tarp, duct tape and a gas mask!

He may be right. Doomsday is March 11, 2018

My favorite commercial from these pirates is the Freeze Dry Guy or the people selling crackpot healing devices based on orgone energy and other such bollocks.

This underground used to be quite open about flouting the FCC and even had an association of sorts at http://www.microbroadcasting.org/. GCN, RBN, AVR, and some of the individual shows these folks run used to list their pirate affiliates on their Websites alongside the legal licensed ones on SW. Now it seems like the pirates have gone to ground and stopped promoting themselves.

You know the funny thing about most conspiracy theorists is that they truly believe that someone is purposely trying to do something terrible without the public being aware of it. The problem is these people have been around for decades and nothing has happened.
Remember when the big conspiracy was Roswell and space visitors and they were going to return. Well, that was 30 years ago when I started hearing that and so far - no aliens...so when the hell are they coming??!
Then the big conspiracy was the government was going to ruin all of our lives...well, sorry David Koresh and Ron Engleman and everyone else...the government may have issues but it really hasn't changed my life much of any in the decade since...
I have a friend in radio who is convinced "Big Foot" exists! This is an educated man who seems otherwise quite normal...but this is serious stuff to him!
It does make you wonder where these so-called normal people come up with this stuff. I think back on when I was convinced the JFK assasination was a conspiracy and the only books I read supported that theory and the evidence was pretty compelling...until... I started reading NON-conspiracy books about factual information regarding that event. It becomes clear fairly easily when one follows facts not fantasy and speculation.
People will believe what they want to believe.

The thing about the current web of Bush family-related conspiracy theories is that the lunatic fringe of both political wings believes in the same version of them. Most of the previous conspiracy fads had different slants for righties and lefties (eg aliens coming to enslave us all v. alien ascended masters bringing world peace, Cuban communists killing JFK v. the CIA killing JFK, etc.)

Also, I have a relative who swears on his life that he saw an actual alien corpse when he was stationed at Nellis in the early 80s. He is otherwise completely rational and not given to lying or boasting, so I'm inclined to believe him.

Yeah I remember there was a conspiracy going on when there was rumors of the fairness doctrine going away, one to two companies would dominate radio,DJ's being eliminated and machines would be brought in to replace them and the worst of all 30 minute commercials!!..;)
