Dallas Tower Question

The old KIXL tower was on Parkdale about 100 yards south of Military Parkway.

Thanks, I remember that site. It shows up on some of the old topographic maps of the area, along with the old KLIF site on Scyene Road.

The CE was Bob Tripp who was one of the most respected engineers in Dallas.

The man was amazing, a master of innovation. He custom-designed much of the equipment at KIXL, for instance, a control room board that could be opened from the rear to allow better access for repairs or adjustments. He also developed a variable speed option for Ampex reel to reel tape decks years before it became a standard feature.

The two 730 towers for the old KPCN (later KKDA) were indeed about one half mile West of Beltline on Beatty Road. It operated with 500 watts (daytimer) with some of the radials protruding from the ground aroung both towers due to lack of maintenance.

You know of what you speak! If it hadn't been for Morgan Portable Buildings it would have been even worse... Once a announcer from Tyler in for a job interview was impaled on a spring from the lobby couch. He didn't stay around for the job interview but did make it back to Tyler to his doctor...
